Mayorga knocks him TFO then celebrates with a can of Guinness, Pork Pie and B&H during the post fight interview.
Hatton was a good boxer when he wanted to be , his foot speed would have kept him well away from those wide punches. Look at it this way would Mayorga have given Floyd a fight for even 3 or 4 rounds? i dont think so. Hatton gets stick for being wiped out by Manny , he was completely shot at this point in his career, fighting againt Mayorga , he would have been way too quick.
This was a bad night x 2 for Forrest , I wouldnt base Mayorga on this. Look at how Oscar tapped his ass when fighting only once a year. And I think that Forest would beat Oscar , so its styles .
So you are saying Forrest had 2 off nights and you would be putting hatton on prime Forrest and DLH's level. After that Mayorga managed to trouble Tito/Vargas/Mosley and was still a live dog against Cotto. He is still trouble for some current champs and contenders at 154.
Bloody cheek, Mayorga has far more flaws than Ricky, Mayorga would win bacause hes bigger not because hes better.
I am saying that Mayorga was unpredictable and I thought was clearly beaten by a light punching Spinks who was nowhere near the level of Oscar and Forrest, but offered speed and a different style. If you asked me Hatton vs any of the names you have mentioned , then it would be a very bad night for Hatton , but Mayorga I think is too slow to catch up with the speed of Hatton.
I can definitely see Hatton getting inside and wearing Mayorga's body out. I don't think that Mayorga had the right style to beat Hatton. Of course size is an issue, and Mayorga could bang... but he was also way too easy to hit and threw his punches very wild. It wouldn't have been difficult for Ricky to slip inside and go to town on that open target. I would take Hatton by stoppage around Round 9-10... with Mayorga basically giving up due to the punishment. Would have been a very fun fight to watch though. I wouldn't be amazed to see Mayorga overwhelming Hatton either.
Mayorga was an unpredictable power house who would show glimpses of skill at times. Either way its a bad night for hatton but dont feel bad, I dont give the current 2 P4P fighters in the world a much more solid chance against any of the other top welters of that era.
I wouldn't say that Forrest had a bad night. I would say that stylistically... Mayorga was the worst possible matchup for him. I felt Forrest won the second fight anyways. However, Mayorga's wild style worked very well against Vernon's long, rangey boxing style. Forrest needs room to work, and has to be comfortable and set up in order to operate his style effectively. Mayorga made him uncomfortable the entire time with his unique attack and wild onslaughts.
I think Mayweather and Pacquiao would do well in any era but thats a different discussion. Mayorga is simply far too big, powerful and wild for Hatton to handle, Hatton for me never truly shone at welterweight and didnt look as fit, fast or as powerful as he did at 140lbs. In a P4P sense Hatton is the better fighter imo.
Dont agree with the first statement but yeah different discussion. What I do agree on is that Hatton was best at 140.
