The difference is...if Mayo catches PBF, he could legitimately finish him.

If someone asked me to bet, my bet is on Floyd either easy UD or late KO/TKO...but...I think Mayo is an intriguing match-up.

As good as Cotto is, I think Mayweather can better predict what he will do, and how he will do it.

With Mayo, he has no clue, except that Mayorga will come out swinging...To me, it's an intriguing match-up and the greatest 24/7 EVER!

Both have mastered the art of boxing and of cigar tasting. 30 years down the line, DLH and Mayorga are going to be discussing their fight on HBO (which will by then by entirely in Spanish) and it's going to be all Mayorga comments. Larry Merchant will be there as well, although over the entire 1 hour broadcast he'll only manage one sentance. "Mayorga... (10 minutes pass)... Fought... (30 minutes pass) De La... (Credits roll)".

Well......i sure hope that Mayo knows this is boxing and not a cigar smoking contest....otherwise he's gonna be in for a clinic. But at least it will be fun watching the pre-fight build up and 24/7 will be something of comedic genius.

  4. Mayorga would have to stop eating for about a month to lose 20 pounds:tired , and i doubt anyone that trains on Cigaretts and booze would beat Floyd that's just wishful thinking:-(
Mayorga wouldn't even be able to hit Floyd let alone beat him..

PBF could never get away with fighting a boxer of Mayorga's calibre, butI do like the idea earlier of having Mayorga play Cotto on the PBF-Cotto 24/7. Cotto is a very good boxer but a total bore in person, while Mayorga is at best a contender but is arguably the most entertaining personality in the sport right now.

Right! I agree. Mayo has the power to put floyd to sleep, But the BIG issue is "CAN MAYO FIND HIS TARGET".......logic says....Not an ice cubes chance in hell's hell will Mayo be able to land flush on FLoyd.

The speed Mayo has isn't good. It's decent. his success came from his bullying style and unreal power at 147. No one was caught by his amazing speed or accuracy. People were caught trying to avoid a wild swing while back peddling and would eventually get caught on the back end of one of his wild and VERY powerful punches.

Floyd isn't like most fighters. Having a LOT of pressure, intellegence, skill and speed are what it takes to beat a guy like floyd. Mayo only has pressure. He isn't ring intelligent, he doens't have speed and his skills are that of a club fighter.

What makes Mayo so dangerous and a true threat to almost anyone is his bravdo, power and confidence. he wins many of his battles mentally and gets in to his oppoents heads before the sound of the 1st bell. I don't think that will be the case with Mayweather....Floyd is supremely confident in his skill and has little fear in the ring....in a street fight....that would be a different story...but boxing isn't street fighting.

You're absolutely right.....Floyd would be lynched by the boxing public and fans if he were to fight a guy of Mayo's calibre. That's like the local little league facing off against the yankee's. There would definitly be hell to pay. Mayo would be very entertaining to say the least and I'd love to watch this fight...even though the outcome would be predictable...what happens before the fight and during the fight is what makes it interesting.....similar to why everyone wanted to see Tyson even after his bid in jail. You just never know what will take place when speaking about Mayo or Tyson.

I think PBF may take this fight. PBF is the bad-boy of boxing, but Maygora is the most hated tit, ever. PBF will be a crowd faviroute and he will batter Mayogra easily.
He may relish having the fans on his side. I would cheer him on anyway.

The thing is, if boxing was like it was in 1919 (sans the difficulty of international travel) PBF would fight Hatton, DLH, Mayorga, Vargas, Harris and Khan all in the same year. He'd probably get criticised for a lack of activity- "Why didn't he fight Malignaggi, Maussa and Peter Buckley as well?"

The high expectations on the competition of great boxers these days are one of the key reasons why they're so inactive, and thus have such slim resumes in comparison to the likes of Robinson, Charles, Armstrong and Greb.

    Exactly.

And that must be considered when judging different eras. The contexts are different.
