This man is a fighter who i really should't like but love for some reason. On the 14th of Feb He takes on highly regarded Alfredo Angulo in a WBC Light middleweight elimination bout. Personally, i am praying Mayorga manages to get the W against a fighter i feel is extremely overated, this will also help boost his own lagacy. People tend to forget the Mayorga who unified two portions of the 147lbs division in two fights with wins over Andrew 'six heads' Lewis and Vernon 'the viper' Forrest (Twice) and almost added a third belt against Cory Spinks in as many fights but for Spink's geting his track shoes on. Spink's performance was truely heroic, how he survived 12 rounds i do not know. Simply put, Mayorga was a BEAST at 147lbs. Mayorga's willingness to fight ANYONE has been his downfall, meeting the hard punching Felix Trinidad at 160lbs was damn near suicidal. Prior to this Mayorga had not even tasted the canvas!! Post Trinidad he has been K.O'd twice by Oscar de la hoya and most recently Shane Mosley. So here's to history remembering the warrior that is Ricardo 'el matador' Mayorga correctly, regardless of the result of his next bout as a great, colourful, unorthodox 147lbs fighter, who very nearly unified a monopolised but extremely competitive divison in three fights as opposed to the 'whipping boy' for the 'big boys' as his recent resume suggests.

If Mayorga wins that would put him in position to fight Vernon Forrest again and he has Forrest's number --

I think that Mayorga will beat Angulo, its a true crossroads match ... Angulo the young up and comer to face Mayorga the veteran ... if Mayorga wins he back into the mix ... if Angulo wins he's at the same place he was at before.

    As far as his legacy ... he's a 2-time champion ... 2-division champion

    fought the likes of
    Vargas
    Mosley
    DLH
    Trinidad
    Lewis
    Forrest
    Spinks

all accomplished fighters who were champions at some point in time --

he's not all that schooled so those losses were a tribute to his lack of schooling and technique, but off raw aggression -- he's a damn good street type fighter.

Good stuff bro. How can anyone not like this man? Honestly? Here's a man who made it to the top of the WW division with a punch, a chin, and a pair of balls. I imagine there are some posters here who have more boxing "skills" than this man...To do what he's done with so little skill is incredible. They don't make them tougher than Ricardo Mayorga, I have no doubt in my mind that if he were offered a shot at Wlad he would take it.

Oh yea Angulo fans, say goodnight, cause he's going to sleep.

Mayorga is gonna take him in deep waters and drown his ass.
I only hope Ricardo is taking this kid seriously, and comes in shape like he did for Mosley.

Mayorga would love to claim a young scalp like Angulo's.

We will see what the kid's made of, thats for sure.

I have no prediction yet for the fight.

Angulo's chin hasn't been tested yet either ... nor has his power been proven ... this fight win or lose will answer alot of questions about Angulo. He's very slow ... the last few fights i've seen him in, his opponents were more scared of him because of his pressure rather than his power and skill.

His speed didn't impress me the few fights i've seen of him.

I was a fan of EL-MATADOR win he smoked in the ring after his victory. That was a moment in boxing history of badassness that can never ever be duplicated. The man is a legend, just for that. Larry Merchant gave him a square, i think, rofl and he smoked that ***** pounding his chest. EL-MATADOR IS THE TRUTH. And is as real as they come.

Yeah proffessional athletes smoking and promoting this disgusting un athletic behaviour, wow cant believe you label this idiot as a legend. Respect to all fighters but Im not a fan of this fool, lets hope the kid knocks him out of the game. Has he not already had enough opportunities on the back of this barbaric behaviour. And please dont sing his praises as a two time any thing. Whenever he met real quality he was put to sleep. As a final note his legacy well not a man I will talk about once hes gone

Mayorga is probably the most underated fighter in boxing today, ok he doesn't have the skills of the likes of mosley and delahoya but he is great at what he does, which is fight.

Mayorga has the biggest balls of maybe anyone I've seen in the ring. To fight the guys he's fought, and so often stick his head out to be hit like that.

When he lit up the cigarette in the ring was great, but my faverotie Mayorga moment is when he dropped his hands and let Trinidad tee off on him with his legendary left hooks. I've watched that fight hundreds of times(literally) and every time I get to that part I have to rewind it just to make sure my eyes aren't betraying me....AMAZING!!

Awesome fighter. Can nevr forget him,one of the guys who for some reason I always liked to watch,he has something of the old ages in him.
He was undisputed WW chmapion when they robbed him with Spinks when he was the champ anyway.Won a belt at 154,fought good competition. And fought one of the best MW fights ever with Trinidad altough losing.Enourmous chin and heart he showed in that fight and I believe if he was trained properly he could have won. That fight makes you respect the man regardless of what else he has done.

    Who did he beat?

    Vernon Forrest x2
    Andrew Lewis
    Michelle Piccirillo
    Fernando Vargas (shot)

He is comparable, imo, to Cory Spinks, Zab Judah, and ranks a bit lower than Vernon Forrest.
