Núñez giving up four inches of height per TVMax's graphic (1.68m to 1.8, or 5'5" to 5'9") while Boxrec lists an even wider gap of five inches, and different tape readings of 5'6" and 5'11".

    Round 1

Núñez is busier, throwing power combos up on his toes at the Dominican, but most of his shots are blocked and even the commentators are soon echoing a refrain of "tranquilo, Ricardo..." while Santiago remains calm, standing upright, picking his spots. A few early lumpy hooks from Santiago, dialing in his accuracy, not quite there yet. By the last minute of the round, Santiago has found the range with his jab and is paddle-balling it against Núñez's beak.

    10-9 Santiago, close

    Round 2

Núñez is burrowing in close, looking to double up on a chopping hook while suddenly rising inward from crouches, but Santiago is keeping his earmuffs on and thudding back with counter jabs. Lots of clinching and spinning in the center of the ring, each man holding a glove open-palmed against the other's hip in a tango. Núñez might have landed a tiny bit more, and cleaner.

    10-9 Núñez

    19-19

More than half a minute of round three was missed by the commercial break running overlong; coverage picks up with two minutes and change left on the round clock. :nusenuse:

Santiago begins the round southpaw for some reason, all he's doing with the stance is continuing to row out jabs in multiples while circling, except now with the right instead of the left. Núñez is firing hard rights on the body and Santiago is tying up pretty often.

    29-28 Núñez

The bigger man starting to get bullied now, with Núñez hitting the body even as Santiago grabs him and slings him around the ring, sometimes pulling him off his feet - and on the outside when the ref forces breaks Núñez is cracking away up top with line drives and hooks, getting through and buzzing Santiago even when he gets his gloves and wrists in the way to intercept. Santiago telegraphing his intent to walk Núñez onto a counter uppercut but he is never given the space to get it off, and is only succeeding in finding a few defensive jabs here and there.

    10-9 Núñez

    39-37 Núñez

R5&6 - Núñez scooping in touches on the body with a free hand whenever he can. Santiago holding like crazy, at one point they both take a tumble onto the canvas together. Santiago finally docked a point for it late in the sixth - and moments later Núñez rushes at him and clocks him with an overhand, with Santiago diving into the ropes to flee, bouncing off and faceplanting into the canvas, with the ref deciding to rule it a knockdown, probably as much to punish Santiago for his hijinx as because he thought it was actually the result of the punch. 10-9 and 10-7 Núñez,

    59-53 Núñez

Santiago needs a KO, but has only ever scored 5 in 14 bouts...and doesn't seem close to gaining control of the action.

Very unwise of Santiago to continue holding in the seventh; ref has run very low on patience and may DQ him. Santiago appears to realize this, standing and slugging it out with Núñez, only to get hurt badly and causing him to...you guessed it...
