I'm watching on my phone on my commute home from work. Might've been in time for the whole thing if not for my crazy ex threatening suicide and slowing me down with calling 911. (they showed up and she claimed she was just "being sarcastic"). Ugh.

Hopefully will get home in time for the main event, buses willing. :!:

 

Cloroformo deducted a point in the seventh for roughhousing.

Dirty fight. Lots of falling in behind missed jabs and pushing down on each other's head.

 

Full body tackle by Durán, early in the final round.

The southpaw is standing his ground with slight foot adjustments, landing his 1-2 at will, the elder fighter running in and floating a loose jab, neck lolling to either side.

 

Shutout unanimous decision for Durán.

Ricardo Núñez vs. Rafael Hernández, 9 rounds @ lightweight

 

Round 1

Núñez is darting in and putting a high quick jab into the face of Hernández. Núñez is keeping a tight guard, standing upright, jabbing hard. El Potro is swinging a low right hook at the belly, missing by a few inches as Núñez darts away. Good movement and outside boxing from El Cientifico.

Round 2

Núñez is sticking with the strategy that has borne success, harrying the opponent with a quick rapier jab, slashing it across his face delivered from up by his cheek or shooting it straight out from by his chin. Tight defense by Núñez. Hernández attempting to sweep the right hook at the body, and pulling Núñez in when he can reach him, using the crooked lead arm like a trawler's net. Left uppercuts by Hernández leaning back as Núñez catches on his forearms and shoots back with a 1-2 and short right upper.

Round 3

Núñez is bringing it to Hernández, leading with the jab and rolling his entire upper body inward, torquing a right uppercut into the chest as Hernández laps up at him with a fat, wavy left uppercut on the sway-back against the ropes. Núñez keeping him pinned there, covering up and maintaining a blistering attack with quick power shots. Hernández opens up, trying a combo, widening the gap in his guard. HUGE looping right by Núñez, and Hernández crumples in the corner, head smacking the bottom turnbuckle, out COLD!

KO3!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

That was a truly sensational one-punch KO.

 

El Científico now celebrating in the ring with two of his kids. Exuberant interview. Pumped on adrenaline. Strangely enthusiastic to have just claimed the vacant WBA Fedebol super featherweight title. Probably more to do with easily (and in dominant fashion) dispatching his best opponent so far in his comeback since the shock upset KO2 defeat in January of last year.
