    BJ Penn????
I think Penn wanted to fight Silva so for him, fighting at 185 ain't out of the question, so even if Franklin go to 205..if they fought(at 185)..who would win this?
I'm curious to see you expert of MMA, your answer!

    My GOD !

Penn is way too small for Middleweight. I could see him pushing Welter, and even beating the great GSP.

But anything bigger than that is too much of a disadvantage for a small guy like BJ Penn.

Bj did better against loyoto than franklin did so it's quite hard to tell if he could bridge the massive size gap, but if anoyne could it would be penn.

First of all.......Machida is a safety first kinda fighter. The art of self defense is what this guy is all about.

Secondly,...Franklin is an all out offensive guy who is alot BIGGER, but alot less talented than Penn.

Sure Penn would do better against Machida.

He did well against machida even though he gave up 30-40 pounds ,if he could do ok against 205 pound machida who is a better fighter than franklin surely it stands to reason he has a shot at beating franklin.

Well BJs did well vs GSP and Hughes 2 big Welterweights, defeated Middleweight Renzo Gracie, did well vs Machida a top 10 Light Heavy. This would be hard though his best shot at beating Franklin would be pulling guard.

Styles make fights, though. Of course a BJJ master like Penn is going to "look better" against a defensive mastermind like Machida. Nobody brings the fight to Machida and looks good doing it.

They both lost, anyways, so it's kind of a moot point.
