Really smart boxer this guy. Fluid movements, nice footwork, solid counterpunching and stamina. First time I saw him and I was impressed. How easily he confused Rios with his style. There wasn't that much holding and nothing dirty about Abril's approach. Even Abril was shocked how easy it is to frustrate the sluggish Rios. Just stuck your shoulder in Rios' face while holding your right hand at your cheek. Sure, Rios condition/weight was a factor but I still think Abril beats Rios 8 out of 10 times. It's no coincidence Abril's 3 losses all came by a split decision. I will look out for him. You should too.
agreed. Abril looks like a world class boxer and I enjoy watching him practice the art of boxing. he got way more skills than Rios and he doesnt have a real weakness in his repertoire.
Same here. Abril did everything right last night. I think Abril-Marquez would be quite interesting but of course it will never happen anyways. Actually after last night I think he gives anyone at 135 even to 140 a good fight.
It was the worst decision I've ever seen. He showed he has good range a great jab and a tight defence. Anyone hating on him just had stock in Rios and realized the share price has reduced.
I can't fathom all this hate.I thought he played to his strengths brilliantly and exposed the frailties that I'm sure many knew were waiting to be exposed. He's not box office but he performed superbly.
HOLY **** . . . I actually agree with you. YDKalSAB (You Do Know A Little **** About Boxing). Keep studying though son, you got a long way to go
:deal a certain segment is pissed off because everyone is saying it was a robbery and a shut out. they are just lashing out before this gets set into the hearts and minds of fans. everyone who saw the fight knows exactly what happened in the ring. Not much holding, walking his guy down, using the shoulder roll similar to the way PBF crowds someone who throws looping punches. Rios got schooled and that is that!
Maybe Top Rank will give him some credit he can use toward his next fight. 8 rounds on the house. What he deserves is a win.
With my vcash and your real cash,I actually feel shallow as **** for being glad he stole the decision.:good
Abril definitely outclassed Rios last night. I only criticize him for not stepping on the gas and putting a beating on Rios. He really could have done more if he wanted to. In a perfect world he did enough. In the real world he should have done more than enough.
Irrspective of all this, his style, length and promotional situation may prevent him from getting top fights in this weight class.
He needs to update his promoter situation... I'm sure GBP would take him.. they got a lot of pull... and abril a shitty style it is, it is effective... sort of what Alexander does but much better...
I had it at 9-3 to Abril, and that was showing my bias. I was watching and as soon as they mentioned the first Rios card I relaxed, best feeling ever :happy
I agree with that. He should have stepped on the gas in the latter rounds. I still think they would have robbed him though. It was his destiny to either get KO'd by Rios or robbed by Arum since the moment he signed the contract.
