Richards begins the final round flinging big front-foot uppercuts into the bottom of Sugden's chin and backing him up for a minute, but Sugden finds his footing, stabilizes, rocks backward to load up and DINGS RICHARDS HARD on either sideburn with forceful looping blows with either hand. Sugden with surge after surge, but Richards able to get a handle on him and throw a damper over Sugden's offense with light flurries of counters and/or timely clinches before he can ever get in real trouble.

Spider looks incredulous, more than a little pissed. Crowd boos.

 

Interviewer approaches Richards & Sugden, together seated on the ring apron, with a diplomatic approach. "You look differently pleased about the decision..."

Spider is first to answer, with "ask him what he thinks!"

Chad shrugs and says he feels they put on a good fight and would love to do it again with a full camp. He's just happy to get his name & face out there and entertain the crowd. Richards is now focused on his title opportunity, but says credit to Sugden for being tough and sure, he can have a crack at that English belt once he snatches it from Pitters down the line.

 

Apparently the originally scheduled opponent was much taller, and Richards had been sparring with 6'7" heavyweights in prep, only to find himself in with a shorter pain-in-the-ass sparkplug in Sugden (who's six nothing)

 

How do you see Richards vs. Pitters going?

You could argue Spider has far more depth of record, as Pitters is something of a one trick pony with his best scalp (and only real substantive one) being Dec Spelman, albeit twice - once in the Ultimate Boxxer tourney semi-final over 3rds and once this past September over 10 for the aforementioned title.

Reckon he can deal with that height well?

This is for the vacant BBBofC British cruiserweight title.

 

Each man has eight kayos, but Riakporhe got there in fewer attempts (he's 10-0; Massey 16-0)

 

Round 1

Riakporhe is ranging out with a ponderous left jab stretched from his own rib cage out across the sponsor logo at ring center, not touching Massey but just measuring distance and observing his movement habits. Nary a right hand even suggested yet. Massey ducking in place, weaving and undulating on the outside, showing off some presently unneeded defensive tricks as Riakporhe isn't throwing anything just now. Massey keeping a high guard, and collects a 1-2 flicked out by Riakporhe as they circle in close. Riakporhe is now jabbing the body as Massey just dances halfway in and then applies the brakes without firing anything.

Round 2

Riakporhe is tearing a page from the book of the man who vacated tonight's prize (Lawrence Okolie), wrapping some octopus tentacles around Massey as the Derbyshire man starts out strong and self-possessed with a barrage of hard shovels downstairs. Riakporhe is circling away, poised, not throwing - until he walks Massey onto a big right hand. Gets a goodly piece of it, maybe 75% flush, and Massey is stung but takes it well. Riakporhe is now just tickling Massey's belt line with the jab while circling away. Massey comes in, nice preventative front-foot defense as he continues to whirligig above the waist, then rams a couple of high-flying rights, either nicking Riakporhe's scalp or bashing his own gloves into his eyes.
