Who knows but he's still a white Latino which accounts for 20% of the U.S Latino population.

One thing is for certain, on every level he's better than goddamn Frank Sanchez.

You should pray they don't Put Torrez in with Sanchez 3 fights in. Torrez would get schooled and humiliated.

A pressure fighter vs a more coordinated counter puncher..... geez, wonder how that would play out....

Far too early to say that.

My gut tells me that the first decent, rangey boxer-puncher Torrez Jr comes across will give him a boxing lesson, if not take his head clean off.

He'd fare better against fighters like Oscar Rivas and Alen Babic at Bridgerweight (BW sucks, but those could be great fights). He'll need a bit of useful experience before tackling those guys, though, and he sure isn't getting any fighting the likes of fighters like Marco Antonio Canedo.

Sanchez tends to settle for outboxing his opponents if he respects them the least little bit. This can make for some tedious fights (e.g. Hammer). Definitely not "pisspoor" though. I don't think I could name ten active HW fighters who I would clearly favor to beat him.

The problem is that being a 6' 1 1/2" swarmer in HW boxing today is a bit like trying to be a serve & volley tennis player on the ATP tour.

It isn't going to get the job done against elite competition.

Torrez Jr has a real problem...
    • He's just not big enough for HW
    • He was at 225 lbs for his fight against Canedo. He's got a fairly stocky-looking framing, so there's no chance he gets to CW without being weak/drained
    • Is Bridgerweight (limit 224 lbs) even a thing yet? Do we need more than the fingers on one of our hands to count the boxers who are actively participating in the division? Torrez Jr better hope so, because it seems the division best suited to his size/frame.

If he has high end power for a heavyweight he can get the job done. Povetkin was legit the same size. If Torrez developes his movement to use southpaw angles more and pressure with his feet while moving his head like Povetkin, he could mentally and physically break down the taller guys like cutting down trees.

To people writing Torrez of because of his size, my saying is "If you're good enough, you're big enough"

Im not saying Torrez will be a top guy, but it's not impossible. He certainly isn't pillowfisted so he has a chance

Fair point about Povetkin - they do seem to share the same body type. But I think Povetkin was more of a "power pressure" fighter than Torrez Jr. is likely to be. Then again, it's a bit hard to say what Torrez Jr's boxing style is when he's fighting guys who he is comfortable letting his hands go against after only ten seconds!

Also, Povetkin didn't often fight big/rangey boxer-puncher type fighters who were at the top of the division. Whether that was by design or not, I do not know. Those fighters are so plentiful now that Torrez Jr will not have the same option if he wants to get to the top of the HW division.
