Crushing cans. Poorly promoted which is shocking. It's like the promoters who have Olympic medalists in their stable hate money. Just put these guys in with a can every month like Tyson and get the highlight reels going. Torrez likely has a lower ceiling than a lot of other HW prospects. Not expecting big things.
I like his offense and straight right hand. His head movement is pretty decent when he wants to. He is a little bit like Tommy Morrison.
Please note the key word 'might'. Torrez has got a far better win in his resume than Itauma does - McKean is a good journeyman, whereas Vianello is a mid gatekeeper. Defo not as important but Torrez has a decent amateur pedigree in his silver medal at the Olympics. However, Torrez's style is very high risk and could get hurt by a big puncher although people have mastered Torrez's style before.
I didn't like how he reacted to a couple of jabs from that Italian guy. He had that woah wtf look in his eyes when he got touched. He got brutally ktfo by Javalov in the amateurs so maybe he has some lingering PTSD from that. I think Itauma and others would do the same thing to him. He's a battler but a bit too predictable and not athletic or skilled enough to compensate for his smaller stature.
He seems like a very likable guy, but he just doesn’t seem that talented. He doesn’t seem bad at all.. But he just seems to lack that special quality that would make him a too level fighter. I’d like to see him work his way in with straight punches more than he does, with less charging with looping shots or trying to counter his way in (also typically with looping shots)
Excellent analysis. There are no sure things in boxing - but for all the reasons you've so well articulated, I'll be quite surprised if Torrez doesn't take a canvas nap when he steps up to the next level.
I feel like he's going to be this era's Amir Mansour. Wont make a dent in the rankings, but will be in some fun fights.
