Towers moves well for a man his size and is domestic level at best, but what's wrong with that? Do you expect every fighter who looks good at some point to go all the way? The term ' hype job ' gets thrown around way too much. Jeff Lacy was a hypejob, Richard Towers is not.
Towers is going about his business quietly, almost taking the backdoor route. No one seems to be taking notice of him fighting obscure fighters. Risky move from Hatton, I think he's trying to set him up with some meaningless titles before he gets a few big fights out of him.
I watched Tom Dallas in Prizefighter last night and I watched Towers saturday night and all I can say is "Richard Towers = New Tom Dallas" is a insult to Tom Dallas. Anybody who watched Richard Towers Vs Gregory Tony would have to admit they have seen more technique, ability, strength and power in a bag of wotsits. it looked like two unfit drunks fighting over half a can of special brew and the referee looked like a friend of the pair trying his best to save each of them and stop the action. actually all we needed is a high pitched drunk woman screaming from one of the corners and it would have been complete...
I found this post quite patronising, spoken like a man who has never set foot in a ring. Towers is a big old lump, with a troubled past and very little ammeter experience, who has used boxing to turn his life around and make a few bob. this deserves praise not ridicule. Not every fighter on the planet can be Sugar Ray Leonard but all fighters show more courage, discipline and heart just walking into the ring than this poster has probably show his entire life.
I find you patronising, so you can form opinions about me on a few words typed but I shouldn't form opinions on what I saw with my own eyes? I was talking about his performance in the ring not his life, also the fact you did not or could not defend the performance but instead chose to talk about his personal life only reinforces my post. And why should I praise an awful embarrassing performance because "Towers is a big old lump with a troubled past who has turned his life around"? is that not patronising the man? :think
So if you knew I had stepped in the ring that would qualify my comments? I agree not every fighter can be Sugar Ray Leonard. Actually talking of Leonard, who trained him? And did that trainer ever step foot in the ring?
After his last performance his nickname should be 'Faulty' Having said that though, he is still at work in progress and he can improve. He will need to improve if he wants to compete with the likes of Price and Fury.
Towers was out on his feet, no question and in my opinion the fight should have been stopped.... although i know how corrupt boxing is, it still leaves a foul taste in my mouth when i see circumstances like the towers vs tony fight.
