Unbeaten Michael Wallisch has pulled out of the June 16 fight and has been replaced by Gregory Tony, the kickboxer who lasted about 30 seconds against Mike Perez in Prizefighter. Disappointing that Towers won't really be making a step up. Easy win I reckon.
It's not that bad didn't he last 6 Rounds with Helenius for same belt a few years back at least it's a slight step up.
A slight step up yes, he also got a good win over Carlos Takam a couple of years ago who stopped Francois Botha a couple of months ago and is ranked #7 by the WBO. But he looked ****ing abject in Prizefighter, he was schooled by fat journeyman Evgeny Orlov (who was robbed by the judges), and then threw himself to the floor as soon as Mike Perez threw a few punches at him before faking a shoulder injury to get out of there ASAP. He's basically a kickboxer who just boxes to earn extra cash, can be a decent fighter when he wants to be but I reckon his heart is in K-1. Easy win for Towers.
Actually a very decent fight this, Tony was injured against Perez so you can't read much into that and only lost to Helenius who is a decent Euro level fighter. Massive step up from what Towers has been fighting, but he will win easy
I remember the very next week after Tony got done in in the first round by Perez. Badr Hari bashed him up inside a round in a kickboxing match as well. I do think he's an alright opponent for Towers at this stage though. He's OK.
Definitely not. Wallisch is a decent prospect, solely focused on boxing and with an unbeaten record to protect. He's pretty solid technically, check him out on Youtube. Tony is primarily a kickboxer, he looked awful in Prizefighter where he blatantly took a dive and faked an injury against Mike Perez. He fought a K-1 match against Badr Hari about a week later where he showed no sign of injury and was just outclassed. Tony is not dedicated to boxing and has a poor chin, Wallisch on the other hand looks a good prospect.
Disappointing. Towers vs Wallisch looked a cracking evenly matched fight. Towers should steam role through Tony which would set up a big 'European title' fight for channel 5 that would do huge numbers.
are you suggesting towers fury? i dont think it will happen, but you never know... a decent undefeated big man not called david
Assuming Towers beats Tony then I would be shocked if he and Fury don't fight within 6 months. Fury fighting an Englisher for a 'European title' would probably do even bigger numbers than Fury vs Chisora. The Daily Star reading casual channel 5 fight fan isn't exactly going to have a clue who Pulev is anyway so that'll be for the big one as far as their concerned. History tells us casual fans couldn't give a monkeys whether the title is legit or not as long as it's promoted as such. Hatton's WBU reign of terror and Haye's WBA reign are a great testament to this type of shenanigans.
