youve got to be trolling. but i will bite. even joe tessitore was talking about early stoppages on obscure undercards and hinted that he saw footage of a fight recently in britain which sounds exactly like this fight. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48DWFlXDOUM[/ame]
Never seen that before. One of the worst stoppages for a long time. The bell was close and both fighters tagged. Ref was diabolical with that stoppage, things like that ruin a boxer's career and severely harm their earning potential.
maxwell turned his career around had some good wins and was motivated and determined and almost got him out of there. it's ****ing atrocious.
"he can't fall short with the jab. if he does this, then the right hand's brought into play." Richie Woodhall on tactics.
You couldnt have been listening to the 5 live commentary the night Hatton fought Pacquiao then Pad, Woodhasll told us all that Hatton was going to beat Pac inside 3 rounds cos he was simply 'too big' for Pacquiao. Woodhall stinks, I honestly dont know why he gets the respect on this forum. PS, he picked Froch to beat Ward in BBN, does he ever get it right???
Nice reminder but imho that's a fail safe excuse mate. If anybody misses with a jab they are likely to be countered. Since when has Froch has speed and accuracy in abundance? Dirrell exploited that and Froch looked like a bull to a matador that night with his wild lunges. The key to this fight was chuck the kicthen sink at Ward's body on the inside. **** the lot of it like, you cant out box him so lets out rough him and take his body out. I cannot believe McCracken and Froch were stood there at the gym thinking 'You know what, we can out box Ward, stick to the jab and set up your combinations'. It would more likely be 'we can't box this lad, he is too quick and awkward, we need to bully him and throw him of his stride and out of his comfort zone. Go to the body and slow him down and go hell for leather late on like we did against Taylor but do so in the 10th'. Woodhall was asked what the key's to victory were, not what is likely to happen in the fight. 99% of fight fans will tell you Froch is slow and Ward is good on a counter.
Woodhall gives good analysis most times but has got in the rhythm of saying the same stuff. Stick behind the jab and get it going is the way to win no matter the style. Tell Hatton that his key's to beating Tsuyu were not the body shots but the left jab, you know the one he just pats with on the way into the pocket. I like him personally but I question his comments recently and as you say he seems to get more things wrong than right. i like him and this isn't a witch hunt, it's more of a bad trait of his just like Nelson's ''whoever want's it more''.
I was just thinking last week he's been a big let down, especially the way alot were campaigning for Sky to use him alot as a pundit. The pathetic downplaying of Martinez, capped off last week with cringeful "Carl's gonna do him" with one fist in the air. He just doesn't have much to say about boxing really. Gives very short, shrift responses alot of the time.
Yeah totally, I wasn't best please with the way Barker was seen as 'top level operator' for rushing in and doing **** all with his guard up. Shocking stuff, I mean I expect these guys to be experts considering the positions and experience they have. Just call things as you see them and have no agenda or bias. Tell them how you think the fight is won and why you think so. I.e i believe Ward is troubled in close by the fact Bika had decent success up close and Froch won last 2 rounds on my card by fighting up close and forgetting the rangy stuff.
Not the Richie i remember from the Setanta days...:-( I don't know whats going on with him. He seems to just be picking the British fighters, because they're Brits. Still better than the likes of McCrory, Dukey, Piper, Nelson et al. But that's not difficult is it. I hope he'll grow into that analysis role, but i don't expect to see our version of Teddy Atlas or Al Bernstien anytime soon. Only Watt and McGuigan are worth their salt.
In fairness being able to establish the jab was key to any hope Froch had of winning. I just think they got it wrong when they tried to suggest that Carl needed to take the fight to the inside to have success. Much like Hatton against Mayweather, the fight was more competitive on the outside than up close.
You're right, mate. Just watched what he said and i don't think there was much wrong with it at all. How the heck can anyone criticise him for wanting a fighter to establish the jab? What he said about getting Ward to hold his feet and timing your shots was spot on aswell. Tbh, whatever someone said would've sounded a little hollow because Carl just had too many flaws, and the tools he needed he didn't have in his tool box.
well to be fair, it is the most important punch in boxing and should always be in use. its a win win in terms of technical advice!!
