You know as a huge Kov fan I never understood how he was so highly rated P4P. It was odd. His standout moments were: stopping Cleverly, stopping Pascal twice. And 120ing a 49 year old Bhop.

I saw him as the king of 175. But there were still opponents out there to prove himself. Stevenson, Beterbiev, Ward (at the time).

When I saw the Chilemba fight I saw Kov get somewhat exposed. I scored that fight 7-5 Kov, very close.

I saw Kov get dropped by Caparello which was bizarre. Even tho he destroyed him the next round, that was telling.

Kov remains one of my fav fighters and if he fights Barrera in LA you best believe I'll be there. But I never understood his high ranking.

Not to mention Ward's guarantee alone was more than all headliners and co-headliners combined from the GGG-Lemieux card.

Not even bruh
92k x 65= 6 million /2= 3 million approx. throw in 2.1 million gate. That's 5.1 million. Kov got a cut of gate and PPV. Ward guarantee was $6.5 million. But Hova gets his P4P fighter

Tex Rickard would've crushed the "promotion" job these bozos did, and he's been dead for 90 years.

You didn't see Kovalev in discussion for the #1 P4P spot until it was announced he was facing Ward last year. Suddenly, you see him shoot past Golovkin, Roman..etc, with talks of the favored Ward being #1 if he beats him lol

And the amusing thing is if Kovalev dominated and KOed Ward in that first fight he wouldn't have got credit. Ward's inactivity and lack of credible opponents in years would suddenly be a problem, despite the RING and ESPN voting him near the top of their polls the moment he became active again.

Another funny thing is that Golovkin would have ESPN's #1 spot if Atlas didn't refuse to place him anywhere on his list lol

Wrong Barrera is a very credible win now. Kovalev was rated highly after he dominated Hopkins

My Kov rating dropped after the Chilemba fight. He looked pretty average in that fight.

Shocking to be honest. I was hoping they could sell at least 200k

Nope. For whatever reason Kovalev signing to face Ward progressed him higher in the pound for pound ratings than any single win:

RING didn't rate Kovalev Pound for Pound until the Pascal win, replacing Canelo in the bottom 5 in March of 2015

https://www.ringtv.com/384035-ring-ratings-update-kovalev-cracks-pound-for-pound-rankings/

When Ward returned in late 2015 they actually rated him above Kovalev at #2...
When Ward vs Kovalev was announced in early 2016..Kovalev shot to RING #2

Kovalev shot from the long time #5 to a peak #3 at ESPN after Kovalev vs Ward was tentatively set in February 2016.

https://www.badlefthook.com/2016/2/18/11057550/kovalev-vs-ward-fight-tentatively-set-for-november-19

ESPN Nov. 2016
3. Kovalev
5. Ward

ESPN Feb. 2016
2. Golovkin
3. Kovalev
4. Ward

ESPN May. 2015-Sep. 2015
1. Gonzalez
2. Golovkin
5. Kovalev

I don't think this is corruption, obviously these all just journalists voting. There was however a desire to fill the void Mayweather left and quickly make a new Pound for Pound King. Ward and Kovalev was more about wishing the fight produced a King than the reality of it.

Fair post but he was a rated top 10 P4P fighter. It's not like he was never rated and got on the list after he signed to fight Ward.

How did Floyd's career generate such huge ppv when a marquee fight like that is basically ignored by the same fans?

Star power is limited. Floyd became a star when he beat Oscar.
