everybody is just tired of these overhyped british/euro fighters thinking they are the best and fighting guys with 20 losses on their records and then when they fight a decent fighter they get exposed its too funny.burns is just another fraud from the uk who should have lost his paper belt in his last fight and got schooled again but this time he could not be saved by a gift decision.

People seem to forget that the UK is a tiny part of the world. As a whole, it's smaller than some US states. Hence why there aren't a huge crop of 'elite' fighters from the UK. I personally think there's too much hate towards them, mainly from the US, but hey..that's internet boxing fans for you.

So Ken Buchanan wasn't considered elite after he dethroned ATG lightweight Ismael Laguna in Puerto Rico and beat him again in the rematch in New York. He also beat ATG Lightweight Carlos Ortiz before Duran took his title in a tough scrap. Ken won Americans sports writer boxer of the year when Ali was on form. Kens in the hall of fame and is a stick on top 20 great lightweight, some consider him a top 10 great lightweight and that's some achievement considering it's the most talent rich division in the history of the sport.
Ken was a brilliant boxer/mover with a tremendous fighting spirit. On top of that he was teak tough with a chin of Iron. If Ken wasn't elite then you seriously DKSAB :deal

Burns was always a paper champion anyway. He would've beat Broner- and still would. But that doesn't mean much.

I agree. There's some who've said he's the best Scottish fighter ever!!
Better than Benny Lynch and Ken Buchanan!!!??
In the days of 8 weight divisions and one champ per division he wouldn't have even been a contender.
    A moderate fighter. No more.

British fighters always get a lot of stick on here. Sometimes its deserved and sometimes not.

To be fair to Burns he achieved more in the Sport than anyone would have ever thought. Hes a nice guy who took the defeat well and to be fair the Beltran result was hardly his fault. He offered Beltran the rematch but Top Rank put Crawford forward and the fight was made.

Credit where credit is due. Burns may never have been the best Lightweight on the planet but he should be proud of his career and he gave fans in the UK a lot of great fights over his reign.

Burns is not even close to being the best Scot. On paper Burns seems like he could be ranked beside the best Scots but the quality of fighter he has faced fails in comparison to fighters from tougher era's, some who never even won a world title.
Top 5 best Scots are. 1. Benny Lynch 2. Ken Buchanan 3. Jackie Paterson 4. Walter McGowan 5. Jim Watt. Then you have Johnny Hill, Bert Gilroy, Tommy Milligan, Elky Clark. All these guy's have fought better fighters than Ricky Burns. Milligan for example never won the world title but beat Ted Kid Lewis on points for the British and Euro title's. He beat him by DQ in the rematch. Ted Kid Lewis is arguably the Greatest Brit of all time. There is just no comparison. Ricky probably sits outside the top ten in terms of who beat the better fighters. Belts and title defences mean **** all nowadays.

He was lookin good with FW because he was fighting shams under FW. Matchroom got him better fighters and Burns has shown his true level.
