Ricky Burns facebook status saying "big fight will hopefully be announced soon"

Broner is the draw in the division, Ricky's one defining megafight thats why he should take it.

If Ricky thinks otherwise then maybe we could see a list of opponents he is willing to face to secure himself as the best in his division?

 

Trying to fight Liam Walsh or any other domestic LW will look ridiculous after you turned the Broner fight down. Got stubborn Scotsman biting his nose off to spite his face written all over it. Benefits of beating Broner far outweigh "jumping cos some big mouth shouts him out"

Billy apart from the obvious people, you will find that most people on here like Ricky and want him to do well, so surely you can understand their frustrations when he is not being tested or being put in fights where he can prove his worth?

 

My apologies Billy I always get the two families in a muddle, in a rush as I'm at work at the moment. Still my point stands about taking other fights, they need to be of a certain standard after turning Broner down, especially if its for the reasons you gave.

 

A lot of posters here are actually supporting Ricky, we believe he has the ability to take on Broner and other top fighters: De Marco, Vasquez etc

Making him fight an easy fight twice a year is not proving anyone 'wrong' its under selling him and the potential we as fans, believe he has. This is what is winding people up.

 

I'm encouraged by this, I really hope we get to see him against a ranked opponent and I really hope he puts on a top display, then calls out Broner. Just please don't let it be Murray, Walsh, or Matthews or some other domestic fighter.

 

And this is the problem really, the WBO is that desparate for sanctioning fees that it wouldn't suprise me to see any of those 3 installed Top 10 and then we'll hear fish features coming out saying they're fighting a legit top 10 opponent. That's my fear anyway. Not knocking Ricky or Billy themselves, but we've heard the big fight next line so many times now its lost its luster. We're skeptical and rightly so given past form.

 

Same old same old, Burns turned down his career defining fight. He can make excuses of why he turned it down, but at the end of the day they turned the fight down that is a duck.

 

When you think that Katsidis faced Marquez 3 weeks after his brothers suicide and put on a great showing it does seem a little weak to just say the timings wrong but I won't grumble too much until the next big opponent is announced.

 

Burns has already overachieved in his career and expectations need to be managed.

He is unlikely to unify world titles at any divison and needs to make his money before he is exposed at the highest level.

Hope to be proved wrong as there is nothin to dislike about the man.
