I tend to think Martinez is big time over rated. you have to remember he was fighting in another guys country in his first world title fight. he was clearly nervous for the first 2-3 rounds. How you can say Nicky Cook, who has gone 12 round a number of times in domestic, european and world title fights faded in 4 rounds is crazy.

Martinez just stepped it up and showed he is a class apart.

theres no time for big time nerves rob or like salita you get smashed, nicky cook imo would have won the fight if he never got caught square on with martinez's left upercut, nicky was clearly outboxing him up until that time imo and burns will do likewise with a bit more power behind the shots!:bbb

Billy, what's Burns' best win in your opinion?

What I hate about all of this is that it quickly turns into Scot against Scot - with the usual suspects joining in to stir it all up. The fact is that this is a really hard fight for Burns and we all wish him well. Let's hope he does it for all who matter to him - family, trainers (past and present), sunny Coatbridge, Scotland and even GB.

In terms if inspiration - look to John Simpson; the wee guy regularly walks into hostile territory and simply gets on wi' it. He's a credit to his country. In the past Watt and Jacobs also went where the action was; this isn't a new thing. We're a small country with a small boxing fan base; plus TV is pretty scared of boxing these days IMO; so HTF was Morrison ever going to come up with a deal that would honour the demands of both fighters? But being realistic - win, lose or draw, this could get RB's name up there with greater riches to follow.

Now how can I get aff this tightrope without injuring my haw maws!

I can't believe how many Scottish fans feel that the only reason English boxing fans discredit their fighters is because they're Scottish.

really hope he pulls it off.

I just hope it isn't a close fight and it goes to the cards. He isn't likely to get the decision.

a 22-0 British lightweight champion in graham Earl against a 9-0 super featherweight in Ricky Burns who takes the fight at only a few days notice because Earl knocked back what looked like a harder task in Ricky's stablemate Martin Watson. Ricky totally outboxes in a near shut out over 8 rounds in what was a counterpunching masterclass. Earl goes on to win the commonwealth in his next fight and then beat Romanov.

Pretty special if you ask me.

Other than that - I think stopping Akibu was pretty good.

I'd love Ricky to win this.

Seems like one of the good guys and it'd be great if he could bring a belt HOME.

I love that avatar of yours Grant, Joe showed the good side of his personality that night, he was really delighted for his stablemate, & you can see that in the pic.

makes me laugh when I think back to Joes reaction to his other stablemate when he got beat by Haye!
