Fine Career. 3 weight world champ. Great servant to British boxing for 22 years His prime years in particular - when he first won a world title up to when his jaw was broke vs Beltran. He was a terrific fighter during that period Solid resume with wins over Roman Martinez, Michael Katsidis, Kiryll Relikh, Kevin Michell, Paulus Moses, Nicky Cook, Michael Gomez, Jose Gonzalez. And there were other fights which should have gone his way which he didn't get the decision - Lee Selby, Omar Figueroa And what a chin. Never stopped in 54 fights
Missed the fight last night was on a long haul fight. Always liked Burns he seems a top bloke and had a great career nobody can take that away from him. I met him before and got an autograph for my son, I had nothing to sign so I got him to sign a tenner. He must have thought I was a right nob.
Come on man he had talent too though.. I remember him giving Alex Arthur a good fight when he was green and just 22 years old , and Arthur said Burns would be a future world champ Very good jab, great chin, great stamina, solid boxing skills. Beating the likes of Roman Martinez and Michael Katsidis. And he was number 1 lightweight in the world at that time. His form dipped a lot after the jaw break against Beltran, he was never the same fighter. But make no mistake he was top drawer for plenty of years.
Never going to be the same after that beating from Beltran but what a warrior fighting with a broken jaw for 8-9 rounds. Gave boxing fans some great nights.
Definitely... but he was way above his talent He was known as the fittest ,hardest trainer in every gym Hopefully will be remembered as a top boxer
Loved him. Good fundamentally and unlucky in some decisions. Wish he had a bit more power maybe for some more good memories but when he banged he banged. Mitchell and Cardle spring to mind. Most important a likeable, nice man.
