Last night was one of the best performances I've ever seen from an underdog British fighter in a title fight. Burns was absolutely sensational and I could never be happier to have got a fight prediction wrong (late Martinez TKO). Full credit to Billy and all of his team and, most importantly of all, to Ricky Burns. I am so chuffed for him. Sensational:thumbsup.
Man that was mental I was all set to watch it in the house when a pal of mine phoned at 7.00 to say someone had dropped out and did I want the ticket, fuuuuck I nearly tore his arm off. Thats the loudest show I have been to, fuuuckin deafening, guys that are normally calm guys screaming till they almost had a heart attack, and growm men bubblking like bitched :| I was right on the forum with my mobile slagging off the doubters, couldnt wait until I to get home:yep
I was there and took three mates who aren't really boxing fans and I felt a bit under pressure for them to enjoy it. During the scrappy and dull simpson fight I was sure they must be bored out there tits and I was feeling the pressure. After the Burns fight they said hands down that was the most amazing atmosphere and specticle they had witnessed and were as emotionally involved as me by the 6th round. Best night I've ever had in boxing.
I have a sneaky feeling he made a few of our Scottish brothers cum in there pants rather than cry last night.
I think this fight shows the value that these titles can have. I like every other Boxing fan wishes for 1 champion but the titles can work and mean a lot when they are sanctioned and managed like they should be. I.E we don't have 2 or 3 champs for that same belt at the weight (Yes WBA and WBC) and we don't have shocking mandatories (cough Salita).
a beautiful piece of boxing by the wee lad, inspired performance!! i had to spend the last four rounds on my feet,,fantastic.
Absolutely delighted for Ricky, if ever there was an example of a fighter who had to work hard, persist and make it on his own without the red carpet treatment it's Ricky Burns. The crowd looked mental would love to have been there, was laughin at the lads with the shirts off, only in Glasgow!
Crazy to think so many scottish brothers from brit ESB were all under the one roof last night TD my good man, I just wish I could have met up with some of you, but its probably better I stayed anonymous incase anyone ratted me out to Alex Morrison, or I would probably be sleeping with the fishes at the bottom of the Clyde just now for calling him an old alkie here before when he did THAT speech at the Pavilion!
