Ricky Burns June 27th Glasgow

See what your saying, it's good for fighters to be active in order to build momentum which Ricky was doing but he just ran into some very tough fights and unfortunate circumstances.

Going up and off the back of the Mitchell fight to begin, he is a good fighter but it remains to be seen whether or not he can crack it a world class, hopefully he can as I'd love to see him win a world title. That was the last 'class' performance or however you'd like to put it that we seen from Burns.

Then this Gonzalez turned up. Truth be told, I'd never heard or seen of this guy before but **** me was I impressed. Ricky seriously had his work cut out with him, he was getting out boxed, couldn't close the distance etc but kept plugging away and in the later rounds found success. I'll say it right now, Gonzalez gives any of the current crop of world champions a hard time and I'm sure he'll win a world title himself.

After the Gonzales fight, Raymundo Beltran turned up and we all know what happened there. He came in basically billed as Pacquaio's sparring partner which to be fair he deserves more credit than that. I honestly think Ricky would have won that fight with no if's or but's had his jaw not been snapped and to find 10 rounds with a broken jaw takes a massive set of balls so you have to give credit there. I've seen Beltran against Lundy (which he won) and other footage of him, but I think Burns would have won in other circumstances - that said, you cannot take it away from Beltran he caused the punch which broke the jaw and he came to win.... and ultimately he should have won, that fight should not have been scored a draw.

Then after the jaw saga, his 1st fight back was against the much hyped Crawford - hardly the ideal fight coming off the back of two patchy performances and a bust jaw.

Therefore I would like to see Ricky have a rest, re-evaluate a few things, come back in a testing yet very winnable fight (confidence builder - what ever you like to call it) then build another charge at the world title from there.

 

I remember Gonzalez coming over he was billed as having a big punch and not much else but I managed to find a little bit on youtube of him and thinking "crikey this could be a hard night for Ricky" and I was right but as always with Ricky he found a way to pull it out the bag.

I agree with the if's and buts of the Beltran fight if I remember correctly I gave Ricky the first 2 rounds then nothing till 6 and 7 then I gave him 11 but a share of that round can be argued and I gave him 12 I had it 114-113 for Beltran but 115-113 is also a score I wouldn't have issues with.

Crawford again I knew it would be a tough fight but my mind would always cast back to the Gonzalez fight where he was getting outboxed and came back so I never ruled Ricky out but the better man won on the night I agreed with 2 of the judges 116-112.

 

I think the point is that listening to any predictions Billy makes would be ridiculous. Much better to make your own mind up.

I think most of my predictions regarding Ricky have been right,if you were a gambling man you'd be a very happy punter and a big Burns fan

 

With regards to the Crawford fight, my "drivel" was absolutely spot on.

I cant see Burns winning another title, Crawford was on another level. He spanked burns and he wasnt even out of 3rd gear.
