Eddie Hearn has previously said he is looking at getting Ricky Burns out on the big O2 show in some kind of eliminator for the WBO version of the World title (presumably final eliminator). With boxing politics as they are, trying to get Burns into a mandatory position against Frank ****** Promoted Terry Flanagan would make sense. With Burns ranked at number 3, I'm guessing a final eliminator would be against number 1 ranked Jose Zepeda or number 2 ranked Petr Petrov. Both opponents they shouldn't have problems bringing to the UK.
How do you get ranked 3 in the world by beating that Aussie, 7-8 of the UK lightweights would beat him and more impressively If Mitchell and Campbell hadn't lost Burns wouldn't be in this postion Both Zepeda and Petrov beat Burns
And two opponents I'd strongly favour in beating Burns. It's a tricky situation Burns is in, he needs money fights, but isn't good enough anymore to put himself in a position to get them. With the career he's had and opponents he's fought, he should be sitting pretty on a nice little nest egg. Shame really. Maybe Crolla will throw him a bone after his mandatory.
burns spirit is no longer in the game, and without that hes national level or perhaps commonwealth at a push. he should give up world title level before he gets hurt again.
I don't think many national/ commonwealth level professional boxers could stand and trade with Figueroa for 12 rounds. You think someone like Scott Cardle could manage that? He is British level and he wouldn't stand a chance. Burns is not elite nor is he prime but I guarantee he would beat the likes of Luke Campbell and Crolla and Mitchell etc. He has had a couple of losses but look at the level of opposition he has faced. The better the opponent, the better Burns we will see. Maybe I'm being a blind fool but he is not as shot as you seem to think.
He never got hurt when he lost it - Crawford tickled him to death with Paulie Mugaggia feather type punches. Too quick, too skillful and simply too good for Burns. The Beltran fight was the fight that effectively finished Burns and he somehow got a draw. Wish him well after the great nights he gave us including the bravery shown by sticking in there with Beltran when in agony. If anyone deserves a payday - it is Ricky Burns.
