Now I know our Scottish lads on here will be well pleased that Ricky has an unexpected title shot this Friday, not only that but its live on SKY.
He fights for the "now" vacant Commonwealth Super-Featherweight belt.

Replaces the Marsh/Dean fight which is off.

Burns faces Osumanu Akaba who lost to Truscott recently and then even more recently beat Munyai.

I think Burns is too big and classy for this guy although it promises to be a decent test and an upset is not impossible.

He is strong and comes forward but I think Ricky has too much skillwise for the Ghanaian.

Presumably Mitchell gave up the belt so SN could provide a title show for Sky, even more presumptious would be that Burns/Mitchell is only a few months away.

    Views?

Glad to see him get another decent shot at a belt. Was he in training for another fight because the opponent is more than capable of causing an upset.

Burns vs Mitchell would be a *******. Great test for Mitchell before pushing onto world level. Expect it to happen before christmas.

its actually a decent little card at the york hall, those 3 chavs are fighting and vinny mitchell, also Derek Chisora vs Lee Swaby.

Good luck to Burns - hope thats a good fight because, to be honest, I didn't think the rest of the card looked all that. Perhaps it will shape up once all the TBA's have been announced.

Yep I was pretty disapointed with the card. Top of the bill ok but only really an undercard fight really. I would rather watch Skelton thanb Fatty Chisora and the Walsh brothers will get matched very softly. And add Vinny Mitchell. Wow wonder just how many chavs they will fit into the building.

Assuming Mitchell vacated to get a title fight on Sky for SN's new contract, date was there to be filled when Marsh/Dean fell apart not a bad little fight but as someone said really a chief support to a bigger contest but I like Ricky Burns and think he wins this one well.

Would be interesting to see how Mitchell copes with him, assuming they will fight some time around Christmas or just after perhaps.

I think Mitchell is Euro class easily but styles make fights and Burns could give him fits despite the Johannsson results that both had.

surely there is better opposition out there for burns, this undermines the title, this guy is only a featherweight and hasnt got a great record at that weight,no wounder cage fighting is taking off in a big way because they match the fights fairly, this is a mismatch, burns will win easily,
i predict a poor fight for the tv fans

****. Have you seen the standard of UK cage fighting? It is **** and full of awful mismatches. Burns is the favorite to beat Akaba but Akaba is a tough git who will cause him alot of problems, he is also settled in the country now and the fact that Burns is no big puncher makes an upset a real posibility.

Hope Ricky win's this, sure he will, but it will be a hard fight for him, he's not really fought a decent fighter since his British title shot.

I've seen some terrible mis-matches. One fight I was at saw a local boy taking on a man who looked and fought as if he had down syndrome. I won't embarrass the participants by naming them but the 'sport' in general is mainly a case of 'two cart horses-'. I've stopped watching. It requires a very limited amount of skill thats for sure.
