Because hes got a better name than Burns, Hes fighting the man who Ko'd Khan, if he beats him he fights Khan in a major british showdown, makes more sense for him than fighting Burns although i thought he should be fighting Burns hes going to make more money fighting Prescott and Khan than fighting Burns and Martinez.

people are jumping to conclutions here guys, kevin can't make SFW anymore end of! hes managed to get a real good fight at lightweight v prescott great oppertunity for him. for boro boxing to imply burns isn't good enough to box kevin is nonsense and he will prove it against martinez.thats a fault with the public, even if ricky wins the world title people will slate him,you dont get them handed to you ,you EARN THEM.

Home boy Ricky Burns makes another leap into world class when he challenges WBO super-featherweight champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez in Glasgow in January.
Three years ago the reigning Commonwealth champion took on fellow Scot Alex Arthur in an audacious bid for Arthur’s European super-featherweight title. He went the full 12 rounds but was outpointed – and then had to watch “Amazing” Alex go on to lift the WBO belt. Now it is Ricky’s turn as the WBO mandatory contender. (Arthur lost the WBO belt in a shocker to Dagenham’s Nicky Cook, who in turn was toppled by Martinez in four rounds.)
Martinez, an unbeaten Puerto Rican, struggled against Cook in the early rounds but then found the big punches to turn the fight his way, dropping Cook twice on British soil in Manchester. He looks a pretty ‘hot’ fighter, and one who can travel and brings his own referee.
Burns, 26, is less of a puncher but of similar build (and style) to the lanky Cook and will he have noticed the way Nicky ‘bossed’ those early rounds, picking off Martinez to head and body. Indeed, Cook looked on the way to victory when he walked on to a beautiful left uppercut from Martinez for the first knockdown and never recovered.
Martinez, also 26, is obviously a smooth, dangerous operator but the counterpunching, gritty Burns - unbeaten in his last 12 - has shown he can do 12 hard rounds at a hard pace and this, along with his boxing talent and home advantage, gives him a shout.

good luck Ricky Burns. everything has clicked nicely into place. I see this fight as a win for ricky burns if he follows the plan and doesnt get too involved. I see this fight going to the scorecards or possibly a late stoppage for Ricky. Saying that Martinez was wobbled early doors by cook so I suppose he is seseptable to being taken out early doors

But does Burns have the power to take him out early? I see this as a long nights work and if Ricky wins it will most likely be on points.

burns ko ratio seems to have improved so it is worth an outside punt. I agree body snatcher that this one will go to the cards.

Yep, fingers crossed for a Burns win either way, the more World Champions we can get the better it is for the state of boxing over here :good
