What a fighter says he weighs and what he weighs are different.. I've seen Ricky in the gym a few times. I know what he's weighed when he's been asked to weigh inn as any good trainer would make sure he knew his fighters weight.. You might think he walks around at 10 stone 8lbs but it's not true. Everytime Ricky weighed in at the gym he was around the 11 stone mark mostly above. I was there at the start of his camp.. 10 stone will be a good weight for Ricky fighters should fight on the night at the weight the walk around at. After getting to 10 stone Ricky will get up to above 11 stone when fighting should carry good power. Ricky looks a lot more powerful in sparring than he does in fights. Billy do you think he will carry that power better at LWW??
ricky always spars about 10st 5 lbs and used to spar heavier guys most of the time and had no problem with them , I see no prob him going up in weight Someone said Ricky walks about 11 st plus, I've never in all the time I trained him seen him at that weight ever. Also it's not about power with Ricky he's not a one ouch ko guy he's about speed and strength and hopefully the extra weight will give him that back
Billy I was in your gym twice and Ricky weighed over 11 stone. One was 11 stone 4lbs and 2nd time he was 11 stone 2lbs. One of the times he point blank refused to weigh inn.. One of the days he was sparring Tyronne Nurse was meant to be sparring Ronnie as well but Ronnie ended up sparring Tyronne. I think Ricky had just come back from Holiday. You have a pretty bad memory Billy boy. Pay attention to the small things means you can Learn something new every day.. Disagree with extra speed and strength. Ricky needs power. Power to keep fighters off. People get confused between strength and power. Power is to punch hard enough and explosive enough to make the other guy respect you.. Some fighters have it naturally others may have to train or find a better weight to develop more power.. Hopefully this will be recognised instead of just pushing him up to LWW and hoping for the best
Well according to Rickys Stregnth trainer ricky usually weight 10st8 give or take and only time he says he went over 11st was after the injury of the beltran fight at 11st3 and thats from the horses mouth
He didn't have that strength trainer at the time I'm talking about.. If he's walking round at 10 stone 8lbs and planning to fight at LWW the boy needs to have a look at how he is delivering his training. In honesty Ricky has looked weaker since using this guy maybe he has brought him down to be walking around at that weight..
Time will tell Davie , Personally i see Ricky as a Lightweight and would like him to continue there but thats only my opinion
your right its certianly not about power with ricky, he couldnt punch his way out of a wet paper bag.
Ricky's hand speed in the build up to the Beltran fight was as fast as it's ever been. 1st couple of rounds he looked fast and sharp. But I agree, he's about grit toughness and his fitness has always been second to none. :good
