I guess if weight has been an issue then that explains why he has opted for softer defences of the title - not defending that, just saying that it would fit as an explanation - as perhaps he has felt that the opponents were weak enough that his weight issues would not show up. So as he was presumably getting well paid, and got to walk around as a world champion while sorting out his financial future. I have always liked and rated him - although not the standard of opposition since he won the title - thinking he could do better. Seems to me that there is no need to judge him harshly on this one, just yet, as Burns himself has not said definitively what he is going to do. It seems that if he stays at 9st 4lb then he will improve his rep with the critics of his current reign. Equally, if he doesn't think that he can get by Broner owing to weight issues, hopefully he will be aware of the criticism in some quarters and get in with a live, dangerous opponent at 9st9lb and get himself quickly into proper title contention there. If he goes either of those two routes, it represents a marked improvement on what he has been doing since he won the title. So I think he has an opportunity to impress people and live up to his early billing, whether he goes up or stays down. If he fights a patsy, at either weight, it will be tough to defend, as his prime years will start to tick by.
wow.....supprised...nah... not only has burns got the castle defences protecting him from any sort of "fights" he now has a moat around his castle to add to his protection.
Awful if trhis happens. Burns will go down in History as one of the most fraudulant Sportsman of our times. 3 pathetic defences and then he gives up. Has there ever been a single mention of a weight issue previously? Nelson is in a cowardly state of silence.
If he vacates then he's presided over one of the worst world title reigns in living memory, fight broner and stop ****ing about!
I'd be really shocked and pissed off if this is true. The guy who told me posts on here (you probs know who i'm on about) and he's in the know so i leave it to him but he let me know this morning who Ricky's sparring after i mentioned Rhys Roberts yesterday.
