Beltran had 10 rounds to KO Burns fighting with a broken jaw so has only himself to blame. Even though I thought Burns lost the fight by 3 rounds, you could only admire the grit of Burns fighting through to the bell. Great corner work by Billy Nelson keeping his fighter motivated and believing when many others would have threw in the towel. Many Brits have been shafted abroad and these decisions will continue until there is closer scrutiny, transparency and accountability for all involved in the appointment of judges and decisions made. Glad to see a Brit get a decision for a change.
I did read it on one hand you say you thought Beltran won the fight but then you go on to state that your happy a Brit got a decision. How does that make sense? This has nothing to do with where a fighter is from it's about doing the right thing and having a bit of humility in the sport we love.
Yes it is about doing the right thing and that starts with the appointment of judges, closer scrutiny of scorecards and accountability/sanctions for shocking decisions such as last night. I believe the officials need to be fully independent when appointed for world title fights - non UK or Mexican last night for a start. After seeing Martin Murray shafted twice, I have little sympathy for foreigners when it happens here and pleased that Burns lives to fight another day. Billy Nelson proved that he was a top trainer last night and should consider relocating to London as he is wasted up North unless he has a pile of talent up his sleeve. Just pleased to see Burns get a big break even though Beltran won the fight by at least 3 rounds for me.
With Cleverly and Burns the last couple of months were a chance for boxing to take out the trash and get rid of the these paper champions that kill the sport. Ricky "The Sweaty Ottke" Burns escaped (for now at least) but at least Kovalev didn't give the corrupt judges the chance to rob him.
What makes you think Beltran knew Burns' jaw was broken. It was hardly Arthur Abraham hanging off like, was it?
Burns was holding on with every attack from round 2 like a Tick stuck to a dog. Looked obvious to me something was badly wrong with Ricky Burns from round 3 but was not sure whether is was a broken jaw or hand. Beltran must have noticed Burns backing off due to an injury and that he was in severe pain. He will really regret not going for a big attack to finish the fight.
Just re-watched it I have Beltran winning by 3 rounds and that's giving some of the close ones to Burns. Plus Burns should have definitely had a point taken away for holding. So in summary fair play to burns for sticking with it, but if this was a draw then **** me this sport has problems
Is Billy currently in hiding? Pathetic really as if they'd won he'd be on here gloating for all to see.
Rickys in hospital with a career threatnin injury u wank stain maybe hes concerned for his fighter more than readin your pish. Your the pathetic one solaris
Solaris, what would you have him do? He isn't some pleb with a made up name like "solaris" posting on the site. He's a boxing trainer. Perhaps he doesn't want to get sacked.
It's a broken jaw. Lets put it into perspective, he's not dying. I highly doubt Billy has been at his bedside since the incident occurred. Much less given he's logged in since. atsch
