You've semi-hit my nail on the head, figuratively speaking. He looked dreadful against De Leon and in many eyes lost. He has been carefully matched since then to hide those weaknesses. Same as they thought De Leon would have marched right in but got caught out.

I don't see how scraping past De Leon (more shopworn than Kats), and demolishing the notoriously chinny Litzau, then belting Perez (who is decent, but no better than Martinez or Katsidis) makes him more impressive.

he's a work-in-progress, fine. He's got potential, fine. But future P4P king? Not if he's struggling with Ponce. No way, never.

That's my objection. I said in my post, if you'd cared to read it, that I felt Burns-Broner was a close fight. I still feel that.

I was with you until the last couple of lines. Agree that he was disappointing against Ponce, but one performance like that does not rule him out of P4P stardom forever; many of the top guys have looked poor on occasion before they got well up the P4P list.

And ftr I did care to read your post, I found it interesting and well-reasoned, which was what prompted me to respond to it.

I think we're seeing much of the same stuff and drawing many of the same conclusions, we just the current Broner/Burns comparison, and on whether disappointing against Ponce rules one out from ever scaling the P4P heights.

It's shocking. People acting as if Burns would beat Broner easily :rasta

Broner would be around 1/5 if they fought.

Maybe my point is more that christening him as a future P4P hero seems premature based on what he's done. And maybe it's largely because Ponce is no mover and a very limited boxer - he's adapted his style somewhat, but he does it pretty badly.

there are some amazing posts on here, "Broner is overrated" line is my favourite...

is that a **** take? considering Burns is a two weight world champion and in 35 fights has fought 2 decent opponents namely Martinez and Katsidis

in Burns last 7 fights Kevin O'Hara went the distance, Youssef Al Hamidi went the full 8, Andreas Evensen went the full 12, Joseph Laryea retired and Nicky Cooks back went in a round... and some of you talk like he is the number 1 lightweight in the world.

Are you seriously telling me Broner would not have done a better job and those opponents? infact if he did you'd probably be on here telling me he hasnt fought anybody.

Now i'm waiting for the old "style make fights" line.

Don't think it's out of the realms of possibility to say that a light-punching SFW may not be blasting opponents out of there like a much harder punching opponent.

You could argue that Martinez would have demolished all of those guys, but Burns still beat him. It's a fairly pointless comparison.

No one is saying Burns will destroy Broner, but the converse seems to be the case.

Broner is getting abit overrated though, maybe not on the Brittish forum but on General some think he could beat Marquez already.

This was how 1 firm had it when it was lined up at SFW:

    Broner - 3/10
    Burns - 5/2

    Broner TKO - 4/5
    Broner Decision - 5/2

    Burns TKO - 8/1
    Burns Decision - 4/1

What does going the distance have to do with it? Burns is no puncher, we know this.

I wasn't talking about going the distance, i looking at the quality of opposition. and does that quality of opponent and the style in which they were beaten justify the rubbish i read on here?

to be fair Burns was underrated but it's just bizarre how it's completely swung the other way because i think Burns is now the most overrated fighter in the UK. you only have to look at some of the crap written on here.

every possible opponent i see the same crap "Burns has the style", according to some people on here Burns is virtually unbeatable because Burns has the style to beat everybody... Gtfo

I actually don't like Broner, he is arrogant and not my cup of tea but over the weekend he beat his mandatory with ease, infact he made it look ridiculously easy and at least he fought his mandatory and didn't decide to jump a weight.

If the fight does ever happen and I doubt it will because I'm sure Burns would hop another weight to avoid it again then i am convinced Broner would embarrass him and a few people on here too.

Did you back him against Carl Johanssen and Alex Arthur towel man, there wasnt much of a betting move on Ricky that night, what did you win another hut in Falkirk.

Now if you wanna talk about betting didd your mates back Selby against your man ? there was a tremoundous betting swing just on the off and the money placed on Selby KO was significant then your man mysteriously fell over.

Interesting we havent heard off John Simpson since is he sunning himself in Barbados ?
