Ricky's heart has been over sold here. Burns is a decent fighter but against anybody elite, he will get hammered. He should be happy and celebrate but should also look at the 1st 8 rounds as a defeat.

Burns broke his heart in the 7th imo. Becsuse chelo threw punches and ricky burns was taking it. For a man who has knocked out 16 people in his last 17 fights. When you throw your best punches and the opponent just takes it and trys to trade back.. It defo breaks your heart. And along with him throwing everything at burns he started to tire. Nd then along with burns putting pressure on him in the next 2 rounds, hes heart clattered into a million pieces.

Problem I've got with the injury angle is that he was just so damn good until he took the big shot in the 7th.

Boxing like he did in the first 6 he could have cruised it with one hand. Just staying out of range and pot-shotting with his good hand. Ricky never landed a punch for nigh on 20 minutes.

Why didn't he do this? Cause his legs had completely gone and he just couldn't keep Ricky off him. Even with a bad hand and his legs gone he could have just tried to cover up and took it to points. Truth is (IMO at least) he got seriously found out as soon as he fought someone who could take his best and still hit back. It happens to a lot of prospects.

That was relief, the investment he has made for it all to go up in smoke.

Really don't get the attitude against burns and hearns here. Yes burns was getting beat but he turned that fight on its head in round 7.

You've also got to take into account this guy was so obscure they were working off YouTube clips. You can't come up with an effective game plan and the correct sparring from YouTube clips. Take into account that he has been out of the ring for almost a year as well.

That guy was a class act and everyone watching that fight that knows their boxing I reckon would agree. Burns took the best he had to offer and broke his heart, he can use the excuse that he thinks he's broken his wrist but the truth is he didn't have anything left. Look at how many times calzaghe broke his hand in the ring but managed to continue and there are plenty of other examples.

Why didn't they interview him there? After the fight was over all we got was one big Ricky Burns circle jerk. Could have heard Gonzales' take on the fight.

No idea, I'd have like to have heard from him as well. Maybe he wanted his hand checked right away, if he couldn't continue then I imagine he wasn't wishing to hang about any longer than he had to.

I just got back from the Arena, saw that Gonzalez might have broken his wrist? The Rtd was a bit of shock right enough.

Don't quite get the love for the guy through rounds 1-5, I didn't think he was winning those rounds at all. Had Ricky in real trouble through rds 6-7 with Burns recovering well in 8...

even from the youtube video of him fighting bums it was obvious this guy has some skills but he needs a mind coach, better S&C and get some rounds

I hope he does give an interview to someone and we get to find out what exactly he went rhough.

On telly, he was making Burns miss a lot early. The crowd were cheering everything Ricky threw even though most of it was falling short or getting caught on Gonzalez's guard.
