it not a great defence and not sure how this sets him up for Broner or DeMarco, but like you say at least he's keeping busy, and although he should win in first gear, at least Walsh will be coming to win, so it's not the best but not the worst thing that could have happened. The Harrison defence shouldn't happen, Harrison is fighting at area-level at the moment, Ricky is one of the top lightweights in the world, Harrison has a long way to go before calling out Ricky

Just remember JamieC that scotty never lost his title in the ring, hes come back, & hasnt lost a round.

Money talks in this game, & Scott Harrison brings prestige and a bucket of money to the table. This would be the mother of all scottish tear-ups, & if you think Scotty would be a lamb to the slaughter? Scotty is one tough ******* of a fighter. There arent many made like him, & to say Scotty is area level?:-(
Harrison has been there & done it, his record demands that he deserves a chance to fight for a world title again.

You know what people forget Dunky? Ricky put up a great performance that night and gave a great showing against an established name very early in his career.Even those of us who have been fans for a while could never have foreseen just how far he would go.Too many people remember Arthur for fighting the wrong fight against Gomez, but he was much better than that.
In retrospect, beating Earl so early in his career(11th or 12th fight?:huh) might have worked against Ricky development-wise.
But I've seen with my own eyes that Ricky doesn't like going into fights heavily favoured.I've a feeling this might be a longer night than necessary.:scaredas:

so joe calzaghe comes back, beats daniel cadman and tony hill, fights carl froch? scotty may still have it, but he hasn't proven it so he shouldnt be gifted a shot yet, i want Burns-Broner/DeMarco/Abril/Vasquez, hes a world class champion, maybe the best, lets let him crack on and prove it, domestic rivalries can come later

If Joe came back tomorrow, the Froch fight would be made in a nanosecond. The Calzaghe name and past achievements speak for themselves.
Same applies to Scotty Harrison on a scottish level. To the brit ESB'ers? Broner is the man.

To the paying public though? Scotty is THE name. Burns vs harrison is huge on a prestige & moneymaking level in Scotland.

jamieC, its nothing personal. I just think you underestimate how big a scotty Ricky Burns really is! THATS why I think it will happen before a summer Broner blockbuster, but what do I know?

What was losing to Medina then? You mean his appearance before coming? Yeah he didn't lose it then, but that's not surprising that he never fought a single world level fighter who was not shot. Medina was his best opponent and he lost one and won one, but even he was past prime by a clear way.

Johnson and Robinson were absolutely ruined by the time Harrison got them, totally shot to ****. As champ his list of defences was worse than Joe Calzaghes, and among that he still managed to get a bit of a gift over ****ing Victor Polo and lose to a past it Medina.

Thing is that he would actually have caused problems for most fighters in the world at that weight, but his promotional team chose not to test him.

Maybe I can explain it better for 2 year olds?

You've got a race winning, fit, young, pedigree greyhound, raring to go. And you take it out of the environment it needs to be in to thrive. And you keep it in house, just like any house dog.

Is that still a race dog, or now a house dog, because that is where it's being kept?

Ricky Burns must be like a 18 year old teenager who hasn't found out how to masturbate. He must be literally bursting, overflowing, and he just can't do anything about it, because Frank W-arren has got a firm grip over his balls and where W-arren goes, Burns goes. Like a dog on a leash.

:good tbf i probably do underestimate the money and build-up this would generate in scotland, however for Burns' sake it shouldn't happen yet, what would the rest of the world think? he'd be a laughing stock right now and you know he would if he doesnt go for a unification and fights an ex-champion currently fighting at the level he is, why not let Harrison string 2 or 3 good wins together and then make it after Burns' beats Broner? The WBO already said they wouldn't sanction it yet, and this is the WBO, let Harrison beat someone at at least european level and it wouldnt be so bad, i dont have a problem with it in principle, just not yet

Learn to read Dunky, he said he's fighting at area level, are you suggesting his most recent opponent was any better than area level??

i do not see Broner v Burns happening

    Broner aint coming to Scotland

Does F*ank thinks its a big enough fight and a winnable enough fight to risk going to the states for ?

Will it hugely boost boxnation subscribers ? Cause it aint gonna get the casual fan ineerested like Haye v Chisora

Will Ricky / Billy push hard enough for a Broner fight next year ?
If they really really want it, they need to shout it from the rooftops

    I hope it happens

    I fear it won't

Broners camp don't even know where Scotland is bud!

The idea of fighting the fight in Scotland doesn't even come into the universe for them to think about.

That's why I said, as far as the yank crew are concerned, Burns is a nobody in America and there are bigger prizefights before Burns comes into the equation.

All the lightweights know who Burns is, all the lightweights would love a fight against Burns, Doug Fischer from the RING magazine really likes Burns and said he would love for Burns to fight for that belt, I know Jim Lampley is really impressed with Burns, Burns is not a nobody to those actually involved in the fight game, he's a big name in the lightweight division. Hell if he wasn't, Broner himself wouldn't be bringing his name up every five minutes (then pretending he doesn't know who he is lol)

Now, you may see me as a big burns nuthugger, but the fact is I agree with you on many things, such as the fact that Burns is bursting at the seams for a big fight, and there is one man who can either deliver what he's promised, or **** it all down the pan for money, and that is Mr ******. Pitythefool has reminded me that it's not Burns relationship with ****** that may stop him from kicking up a stink, but his loyalty to Alex Morrison.

Now there is optimism about this being a keep a busy fight for a unification next year, let's just say ****** is telling the truth for a split second and he is actually in talks with Richard Schaeffer for a Broner fight (providing he gets past De Marco and I tell you that is far from a sure thing) early next year, how does this fight A) Keep Burns motivated B) impress the Americans(like the Martinez and Mitchell wins did, and make no mistake, that was an impressive win in the lightweight standings) and C) what if Burns underperforms and looks like ****? we know Burns thrives under pressure and has looked crap in the past against opponents who aren't on his level .

it's a big worry, and this is the defining moment of Burns career we are coming to here, he is on fire, in his absolute prime, and not just hungry but DESPERATE for a big fight, its all hanging in the balance here.

thats what a lot of people have been saying, this fight isnt great but Burns is world class and has been fighting at world level so this is a step down, why the agreement now?
