Speaking of Yorkshire prospects. Anyone know whatever happened to Nicky Smedley? Thought he was meant to be alright but hasnt fought for 2 years. I know a lad thats mates with him but oddly enough havent seen him for about as long as Smedley hasnt been fighting.
I think that Sykes is with Maloney... He has been brought on at a nice pace into the pro's and I think will do exceptionally well. He lives the life and looks after himself, he will get a European belt at the least I think...:yep Johannsen should have cleaned up, I know a mixed dedication to his training has let him down, if he would have trained 100% for the Mitchell fight he would have KO'd him...:yep
His stamina and slow start cost him. Once he got revved up fully he had Mitchell in all sorts of trouble, then just as quickly he gassed and was taken out. Interesting point by Mitchell made during the Q & A on here was that he felt Carl was a harder puncher than Prescott, and according to Jeff, Gomez said exactly the same. It's just a shame he was seemingly frightened to death of Kirakosyan :-(
Carl has a punch like the kick off a horse... He sparred Gomez years ago in Louvalite in Hyde and gave him a right session. Gomez did his nut...:nut shouting and balling, Arnie posts on here, he was there sparring with Matthew Hatton the same day...he can verify this. I think it all stems from when Kirokosyan KO'd him in the USA in a round on ESPN, I wonder if he ever got over that...:think Some people just have your number no matter how many times you fight them...:yep
I wonder when Carl will be out (by that I mean in the ring) next..... hopefully looking at a British title shot in the fight after that.
Looks like he will be on course to fight Sykes or Burns after they fight I think...:think I can't split Sykes or Burns at the moment both are so much improved, but what I do know is that whoever wins Johannsen will beat if he trains right...:yep The only reason I say that is because both Sykes and Burns will be in great condition but they will not live with Carls power IMO...:yep
This is spot on.. Back to the subject and Ricky is gonna beat Martinez Im pretty sure of that now..:good
Ricky could live with Carl's power last time though, he just fought the completely wrong fight, almost as if he froze. He took the headshots alright, even the knockdown from the head shot he cought Ricky slightly off balance, not saying it wasn't a knock down because Burns definetly was hurt, but he took bigger head shots that night without going down. I've watched the fight several times and you can see that in brief periods when Ricky got his jab going, he had Carl confused as he moved from side to side but this would stop when Ricky went straight back to standing with him. It was also an extremely small ring that night, not that made that much difference because I think Ricky would have got beat no matter what size it was if he put on that sort of performance. I reckon Rickster could get his revenge if they fight again, we don't know how much Carl has left either.
I agree it with you it will not be a given as I have said at the end of what I wrote "Johannsen will win if he trains right"...:think Training right is a critical factor for Carl Johannsen. If Ricky shows the vast improvements that he has made he can give Carl a right nights graft. If Carl don't train right he will give himself a right nights graft and could get beat and that takes nothing away from Ricky Burns...:yep I think it was the Johannsen fight that made Ricky assess his performance against his potential and he has responded in the best way he could have...:good I wish Ricky well and I hope that re-match can be made...it will be a barnburner...:bbb :bbb :bbb
Nice one Tony... Arnie will confirm my point on that Johannsen v Gomez spar at Louvalite... Johannsen bounced Gomez in his own gym and he went nuts...:nut
