Ricky Burns vs Adrien Broner

Watch his fight with Ponce De Leon and you'll understand why people were saying that. It's a bit like people calling Rigondeaux boring after the Cordoba fight and then him blowing Casey away. It depends a lot on the opponent.

I personally do think Broner is just a boring fighter, watching his fights before and including Ponce De Leon, they weren't exactly riveting, even the Litzau fight was dull until the last 10 seconds. He's quite tentative and negative at times. I mean, Ponce De Leon is hardly boring ever, yet Broner made their fight very cagey. I do agree about it depending on the opponent in a lot of cases though.

He'd still easily beat Burns though, they're a class apart.

 

Yeah its funny how things can change so quickly in boxing.

Litzau been stopped before and he got caught on the ropes last night. I would hope Burns would move better than that. Box and move.

Broner is pretty wild at times, and looks a dangerous animal for anyone at SFW. But I got a feeling Burns would box him to a close decision at the moment.

Would be an interesting fight for sure.

Broner also missed an awful lot when he had him trapped i thought there where a few forearms thrown to in the stoppage

 

Please give me some evidence to suggest that, other than the fact your mate beat him.

 

Martinez was only the best in the eyes of the madmen on here. Who had good reason to claim he was, to try and pump up Ricky Burns.

What did Martinez ever do to suggest he was #1?

To be fair he was there, or there abouts. The problem with the SFW division is its pretty open. You could make a case for a handful of fighters being number one.

 

Broner is fairly boring, and he's not very impressive at it either. It's not like he's a Calderon or a Mijares type who have such fluidity about them that they don't really have to take risks, they can just outsmart their opponents easily without making things too entertaining. Broner always seems on edge, he's not naturally boring, he just fights that way because he almost seems worried half the time. Superior boxers to him would exploit his deficiencies I think.

Which is why he's lucky to be residing in what is now the weakest division in the sport behind strawweight.

 

So why is it passed off as irrefutable? He beat one domestic level Brit fighter. It's like saying Alvarez is #1 at 154 because he beat Matt Hatton and Ryan Rhodes.

 

He's like a cagier Devon Alexander.

 

Pretty much. He needs to loosen up, because I think he could be a really effective boxer-puncher as opposed to a tentative, uncomfortable looking counter-puncher. He's relying on his athletic gifts too much instead of building on them.
