Simmons is taking lateral hops toward Camacho, not covering much ground with them, lagging behind as Camacho dances around him, languid and easygoing. Right jabs score on the outside for Camacho, starting to mix in quick slicing lefts under the elbows, causing Simmons to double over a bit. Simmons tries a hook while bent inside after taking one such body shot, only grazing.

You get the feeling with a bit more know-how, maybe better coaching (and with that, improved conditioning), Simmons ought to have every tool needed to knock this man out...but he just won't, here.

 

Round 8

Simmons is plodding in, stuffing the left jab up into Camacho's throat, landing with forearm and wrist as often as knuckle padding. Right hands lunging up top from Simmons miss. Left hooks by Simmons, tossed over the right jab, nick the bottom of Camacho's braids. Camacho is circling repeatedly into the ropes, throwing fewer of his right jabs and growing less accurate with it on the backfoot. Lefts on the body from Camacho jumping into clinches.

Jim Watt has it 77-75 Camacho, giving Simmons the eighth, fourth, and third.

 

Round 9

Simmons is strong-arming Camacho onto the ropes with his left turned horizontally, then bashing up top with the right. Camacho looks uncomfortable with the roughness and up close pressure. Camacho is attempting to clinch. BIG RIGHT HAND BY SIMMONS! Camacho is clearly hurt. Camacho holds. Break. Camacho tries a deterrent jab. Simmons walks through it and smashes up top with another right. Camacho ties up quickly. Simmons bulls Camacho into the ropes, chest to chest. Simmons works his free hands as Camacho scrabbles to get either one snared to initiate a spelling clinch. Simmons loads up on a 1-2 charging in and Camacho swivels partway back to load up a left uppercut, delivering his payload first and cleaner but having no effect and still getting hit and backed up. RIGHT HAND BY SIMMONS! Camacho is dropping his head low to his waist and backing away messily, butt hitting the ropes and then reaching out to grab, saved by the bell.

Prediction: Simmons knocks him down but not out in this last stanza and edges it 95-94 on my card.

 

Round 10

Simmons is throwing straight power shots with both hands. Camacho ties up. Simmons is mauling Camacho on the ropes. Simmons pulls back, loads up a 1-2, then adds to it. Camacho is ROCKED over the uppermost rope, slumping, down. Camacho up, blasted, OUT!!
