He deserves credit for toughing it out, that's basically what he did hung in there until Gonzalez gassed and looked for a way out. Someone from the crowd reminded Gonzalez he was Puerto Rican then he started looking for a way out.
Yep. He knew his reputation would be hugely raised by quitting in a fight he only had to take one of the last three rounds to win for sure. You can see the logic there.God forbid anyone should consider that despite Burns being poor,he actually made Gonzalez quit. If Burns had won easy, the guy would've been a bum. If he'd stopped him late, the guy would've been a bum. If the other guy won,Burns would all of a sudden become a bum. He fought a poor fight and still made the guy quit.Perish the thought that he might get some credit.
You're fighting a losing battle here Pity "he broke his wrist" no, he broke his heart when Burn's didn't fold in the first six rounds, I rate Gonzalez, but HE quit, he was visibly discouraged from the 7th onwards, and hisown trainers had to try and convince him to continue, he shook his own head at the referee basically saying "I don't want to continue" then walked up and raised Burns hand It's ok having skills, but it's a wakeup call when you step up a level and the guy in front of you not only doesn't fall over, he gets stronger and starts hitting you back the man quit, full stop
He didn't make him quit. He would have had to land punches to do that. And if a guy with 10 KO's scored a late stoppage in a fight he was losing, I think there would be plenty of credit being thrown around. If Gonzalez had won, Burns would have been called into question. His only good win is against Martinez for chrissake. Half his opponents had losing records. Half. I'm looking at that fight as a loss because Burns did absolutely nothing to win it. A ****ing heavybag would have won that fight. So I'm already questioning Burns. He's likeable and fun to watch, but how good is he really?
You can go into the British boxing forum and tell Burns trainer that yourself (he posts there) oh and by the way, he did research Gonzalez, but you know better than him surely :nut moron Burns was a rusty, off form fighter fighting a talented, in form fighter, and he struggled...but guess what, he made the guy quit on his stool, Gonzalez himself literally shook his head, then walked up and raised Burns hand
He KO'd Kevin Mitchell, who gave a boxing lesson to a prime Prescott, who beat seven shades of **** out of Mike Alvarado for 7 rounds before fading and crumbling in the tenth round.. watch Alvarado vs Prescott and tell me how good Mike Alvarado REALLY is? ****ing boxing fans man, short term memory
I know mate. That guy needed one round from three to guarantee that world title, but still felt the need to quit. It was clearly a fix.atsch I'm out tonight.Burns was **** poor and still won, forcing a guy in the lead to retire.A mandatory that the WBO were insisting he fight. But a win doesn't count on ESB if the guy who lost was in front and decided that rather fight another 3 rounds,he'd quit. And if it had been a 1st round KO for the champ, just the fact that his name is Ricky Burns means he'd get slaughtered anyway. Over to you Brenny. When I look in the morning I hope you've been fighting the fight.:good
Lucky? not really, there was no luck in the heart and determination he showed to get through the 7th and turn the fight around, at worst he was going to end up drawing on the scorecards against a very good and awkward fighter who hits hard, on that showing Gonzalez is better than Di Marco.
the same Kevin Mitchell who ko'd John Murray before he fought Burns, the same John Murray who then went and did much better against Brandon Rios (who guys on here have talked up in the past befor Abril schooled him)
Alvarado, Prescott, and Mitchell are not very good, so I don't see your point. They're not even close to title-level fighters in their divisions. If he comes onto the forum and says they expected a brawler (like Burns said), then I will absolutely post those videos along with my opinion that his analysis was flawed. My guess is they did do their research, knew what to expect, and ended up not being able to deal with it. If they actually didn't research, or did research and took nothing away but "brawler," then they need to find someone else to do their analysis for them. Watch the videos and tell me you don't see an outstanding fighter whose style would be a tremendous problem for Burns. Burns struggled until the opponent injured himself. After that it doesn't really matter. If Burns had hurt him and then made him quit it would be an entirely different matter, but Gonzalez hurt himself and then quit without having taken any real punishment. You can't really say Burns 'made' him quit. Burns did nothing to him a heavybag couldn't have done.
I bet Burns felt like quitting as he got beat up for 7 rounds in front of his hometown crowd. I bet he felt like quitting as he took huge clean shots to the chin in the 7th. Fact is Burns took his like a man and came back for more. Burns didn't quit, Gonzalez did. That's why Burns goes home with a belt tonight.
Yeah, because people that fight for fun and/or a living feel like quitting when things don't go their way. Have you ever been in a fight? Do you even lift?
Did you see him sucking wind by the 7th round? I'm surprised the first 4 rows didn't pass out due to oxygen deprivation, the man was ****ed
