Ricky Burns Vs. Joseph Laryea

If it is in March the only positive thing is that they are keeping Burns busy. Fair enough Laryea looked good on his undercard but he needs a few more wins IMO, even by today standards.

Burns should beat him, instead I think Foster Jr would be a better sell and a tougher fight for Burns then move onto Fana who aint that great.

 

Is that the African one that beat Appleby? This is a terrible defence if it happens and is even worse than the Evensen one.

I'll just about accept this but if Burns doesn't start fighting decent opposition by next summer then he deserves to be crucified just like we'd do to foreign boxers doing the same thing abroad. Since he beat Martinez he's been fighting less than domestic level opponents!

Can't really blame them much because he can sell out Glasgow and Frank will keep milking that for as long as Burns stands up to him.

**** fight, I gave the Burns Team a pass for Evensen but this is even worse no excuses.

Fair enough Laryea beat Appleby and he looked good and there is no doubt that was a good victory but since when has Paul Appleby been World Title Contender level.

Also that is the only victory on Laryea's record that is any good other then that he has lost to Maxwell Awuku (by shutout if you believe BoxRec) TKO to Yakubu Amidu and UD to Osumanu Akaba, and what do all those fighters have in common? They all lost to British Fighters and other then Awuku very comfortably.

Laryea was a good opponent for Walsh why are they picking him for a World Title shot, this guy isn't even Top 50 material in the shittest division in Boxing.

Also does anyone else think that maybe this indicates that Sky are paying pretty low for their shows because even by FW standards this is very bad.

 

Terrible fight. Beating Paul Appleby does not make a world title challenger. There is no point in dressing this up as anything but an unacceptably poor fight.

 

Ouch! Not the best fight to have after an already poor defence against Evensen. Would love to see him in there with Fana after this if these rumours are true.

 

I could of taken the whole post as sarcastic but decided to take it at face value.

Evensen then Lareya, not the type of opponents to be taking on to prove your the best in the division are they? Lareya should be fighting Walsh on the undercard of Burns V's Fana.

 

So Layera and Evensen deserve a shot but Rocky doesnt deserve a re-match?

Don't get me wrong I think this is a terrible fight and fights like this are bad for boxing but Martinez did the exact same thing when he won the WBO title against Cook. Hometown defences against the mighty Feider Viloria and Gonzalo Munguia are hardly anything to write home about.

 

Totally agree mate, and I'm sure Burns wants to fight the best but this is pretty shameful
