Yeah, its hardly what i wanna see either but as Burns says, he just leaving it up to Warren. Am guessing it will be Fana after this....early summer, well im hoping.
**** poor opponent yet again, Warren and Morrison taking the fans for a ride and the one who will suffer will be Burns. They know the scottish public will go to see Burns whether he fights Fana or a taxi driver from Peru, as long as its a "World Title" fight. No doubt the undercard will be poor as well, Appleby wont be fighting any1 decent after last time and Arthur is just Arthur. If were lucky we might get John simpson fighting but i wont hold my breath.
Had a feeling this fight was going to be made after Laryea defeated Appleby, i'd expect Burns to come out on top again and not overly need to work to win it, as many are predicting a fight against Foster Jr would be very interesting..... Or Feck it get Simpson up into super featherweight for a showdown :tong
Mmmm, not a great fight to be honest, but its not Rickys fault. Warren just pulling our chains! He will feed these guys to Rciky to make a bit easy cash, then eventually give him someone decent, he done it for long enough with Hatton
A truly terrible fight for a world title if it comes off. Plenty of fighters in the WBO top 15 that would be more respectable. Litzau, Foster Jr, Gulyakevich, Tajibert....
i no he is scotland big star but you cant defend this **** mate. Burns is a good fighter but hes picking of bums. Its like the wbu days.
At least its not Matt Zegan Its good to see Lareya doing well. Rocky type of story: a nobody, heavy underdog gets his lucky last chance and out of nowhere beats an established contender(Appleby), despite some adverse judging and setabacks in the past, he fights fantastically well and suprises everyone. It's great that a fighter is not being punished for daring to cause an upset, but a world title shot already? I would prefer to see him in a commonwealth title fight(I think Ghana is part of the Commonwealth?), if he wins that then he will certanly be a credible oponent for Burns. Right now, Im disapointed with Burns.
To be fair this is going on even with elite world fighters and often to a worse degree, it's not a great fight but if Ricky can get another good pay day fighting a guy who many of the casual fans attending his last fight can relate to (ie he beat Appleby) and get them to return then it's a wise move, a low-risk/high reward option. He gets to build his ticket-paying fanbase a little and keeps busy before moving on. It's a business decision and the lad has time on his side.
Here is the Wbo top 15 1 Terdsak Jandaeng (Oriental) THAI 2 Eloy Perez (NABO) USA 3 Roman Martinez PR 4 Will Tomlinson (Oriental Int.)(Asia-Pacific) AUST 5 Vicente M. Rodriguez ARG 6 Luis Cruz (Latino) PR 7 Emmanuel Tagoe (WBO Africa) GHA 8 Sergey Gulyakevich BEL 9 Santos Benavides NIC 10 Joseph Laryea (Int-Cont) GHA 11 Jason Litzau USA 12 Andreas Evensen NOR 13 Daniel Lomeli MEX 14 Vitali Tajbert KAZ 15 Stephen Foster GB
Not good enough. This is world championship boxing after all. Warren complains about the BBC's lack of coverage but for his only world champion he serves up two consecutive opponents who cannot have been anywhere near a genuine top ten. To be honest when boxing's like this I've got little sympathy.
Ricky proved me totally wrong and was due a easy one last time. I do find it really strange that we keep being told he needs top challenges to be seen at his best then we've had Evensen and a bloke who was 8-1 outsider to beat Appleby :huh Confused? Me too. Especially after being told what a easy division it was to unify and how Martinez isnt worth a re-match:happy
its good to see some of the old faces on this thread ... as for opponent its not good enough to the paying punters ,altthough i was impressed Laryea's decent jab ..that was like a one oclock gun hitting applebys face ! anyway of the list of the top 15 onthat ,the one i would like to see burns go for would be Sergey Gulyakevich .Would be a good fight
