Ricky Burns vs Kevin Mitchell = MISMATCH

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by Spearmint Rhino, Feb 11, 2012.

  1. There. I said it.

I'm sick of all these Mitchell fangirls on here that make excuses for everything he does, or doesn't do (more to the point) - when in all honesty he's a pretty average fighter that's beaten a lot of average opponents and gained a high ranking with the WBO.

I was as critical as anyone of Burns and his WBO reign of error at 130, fighting shite opponents, but at least he's got two wins over genuine top 10 operators - both of whom were favoured to knock him out relatively easily.

If this fight gets made, and I hope it does, Ricky Burns will knock Kevin Mitchell out. What will the excuse makers say then?

Bookies will have it close, which means I can clean up on Burns :happy

  4. I'll definitely ''cherry picker challenge'' somebody on this fight.

If anyone has a Betfair account I'm all ears.

Well if he does lose he can just challenge Rios as that will be an easy fight for him apparently

If they both turned up at 100% i would favour Mitchell. You just
don't know where his head is at though. Burns UD.

Calm it, I think he'll win, but I'll be lumping on the decision.

In what way do you see him beating Ricky?
Kevins much slower, lower workrate and doesnt punch any harder than Ricky,so please explain.

  10. In fairness I'd say Mitchell does punch harder. But not by much.

Not to the point where it really matters, either in a fight between them or comparing their credentials at world level.

I think it would be a closer fight than you think BB but I would certainly make Burns the favourite, probably a 60/40 fight in his favour. I reckon Mitchell's wins over Johannesson, Prescott and Murray are all solid and deserve to get him in the upper regions of the division. But as you say, I think there is a bit of a difference in class between the two and I could see a Burns stoppage too.

He has the greater variety of punches and seems to be able to vary his style better too. Mitchell is ok on the back foot but Katsidis has already shown his fragility at times and I think Burns would be able to outsmart him. Fair enough Burns isn't a massive puncher at 135 but his body punching is quite spiteful and very accurate; I could see that playing a big part in wearing down Mitchell if the 2 were to fight.

    Mirchells workrate is abysmal.

I reckon Burns would win on points mate, but i think it's fair to say Mitchell has more power than your boy.

Yes he could, he's not tight at the weight, he's just lazy.
