Spot on. Imagine taking a unification against the guy who was considered #1 a few months ago instead of fighting Broner with half a training camp. They only got Rees because n o belt holder or top name would dream of taking such a difficult fight with 8 weeks notice. What a disgrace.:-( The silly element of the Broner fans will be disgusted because this is a genuine fight and they know there's **** all they can say about it without resorting to drivel like fatcity's post. Any neutral knows this is a superb fight for Burns and Vasquez and there's **** all the crybabies can say. **** right off!:devil
Pretty risky, though. Vasquez is a tricky operator. Won't allow Burns to look good. Winner of this will no doubt be the number one of the division - based on resume. Broner may well be the best, but these two would have actually proven it.
Definetly risky, Vasquez is a quality fighter and I think this is a 50/50 fight, maybe Burns has a slight advantage with being the home fighter, even though its not in Glasgow. The sort of fights we need to see though, when 2 finely matched champions get it on, as a fan of Ricky's hope he pulls it off, but kudos to both for making the fight.
Indeed :good Smart/ballsy move on Frank's part, too. Broner is the obvious fight they're gunning for, but before doing so, he's making Burns stack up his resume -- picking up another world title -- and strengthening their position at the negotiating table. Imagine if he also engineers a way to pick up that WBA title that's lying around somewhere . That'll be three titles to Broner's one, that Burns will be boasting.
Nice. There were rumours of Broner facing Abril not long ago. Looks like he'll probably get his hands on the WBA title before Burns would. Nov/Dec 2013: Broner vs. Burns to unify WBA, IBF, WBC and WBO? :think
Would be great for the division if all the belts where unified but one of the titles will be stripped before then most likely. Still can't count out Vasquez, Rees and Bogere to cause the upset. Or Abril to pick up the WBA and upset Bronzer he is a tricky fighter to beat.
Broner beat Demarco and they both proved they are scared of Broner. Both rejected fights with Broner.
I think Burns would have a better resume at 135 lbs than Broner , Vasquez and Mitchell are rated as highly as DeMarco and Rees, then add on wins over top 10 Moses and Katsidis. Same goes for Vasquez, Burns is arguably as good as DeMarco plus Vasquez has made multiple defences of his IBF title. Winner of this fight deserves to be number 1. I don't think they are ducking Broner and hopefully it happens next. Being unified champ means they bring more to the table and thus they can negotiate a better deal now.
Vasquez is very difficult to look good against, so it's to Ricky's credit that they've made this fight. Even if it's a potentially awkward clash of styles, the winner has a good argument to be ranked #1 in the division.
The winner of this fight is not #1. Everybody knows Broner is the better fighter. They both rejected career paydays to fight Broner what does that tell you?
