This is exactly right. Burns rejected the offer because he already had a date booked in the UK, and Vazquez rejected because he would have been taking the fight on short notice and didn't have time for a full camp. Both guys have made it clear they're okay with fighting Broner, and Vazquez has even said he'd do it on Broner's home turf. I'm pretty sure the winner of this one would eventually fight Broner. It's not like there are other big money names available, and both guys seem like they see holes in Broner's game that can be exploited (as should most knowledgable fans). I think Broner would be the favorite against either - and rightfully so - but neither one is a gimme fight, and they're both a lot better than DeMarco with significant stylistic differences.
With that type of mindset i fully expect him to lose against Vazquez, who by the way happens to arguably be his toughest challenge, he's letting it be known he's underestimating Vazquez by saying he needs 12 weeks for Broner but only 7 weeks for Vazquez, smh such disrespect I hope this dude gets humbled...
So quick to draw idiotic conclusions that suit your agenda He would have had 7 weeks for Broner in February, he has the whole 12 weeks to prepare for Vasquez who he's fighting in mid-March.
The only way to prove he is the best lightweight in the world is to fight Broner. Something I highly doubt will happen.
So what are you implying? That Burns is a mover who gives angles and can fight off the back foot? He more of a pressure type fighter who throws a lot of hooks and wings punches...dude is not elite at all...
I agree that Broner will probably be the best of his generation.Actually quite like him as a fighter. Ricky had a camp for a date in December that was cancelled with 2 weeks' notice. Then he took a two week break for Xmas and admitted he was upset about the messing about for the date that was cancelled.Ricky's not a multi-millionaire with an HBO contract,so that date(which was always a keep busy/earning fight) would've mattered to him. He's already been in camp. His trainer posts in the Brit forum and they knew a big fight was coming for weeks,so it's not that he's giving Vasquez seven weeks at all,as you go onto say here... You've taken that completely out of context, and if you really knew Ricky you'd know that he's probably the most humble belt holder in the game right now. What mindset? He's taken it to heart about Broner and that comment was respectful of both Broner and Vasquez. And when you talk about being in shape all the time, that's fine if you're a journeyman that takes a fight on a week's notice, but from parts of your post I can see you can be reasonable, but you should know that any top level boxer is entitled to a full preparation for an extremely tough fight, and to suggest that they're all in shape and ready to go at short notice suggests that you're a tad naieve about the way it works nowadays. As I've said many times, fighting Broner could break Ricky as well as make him,so should he give up everything he's earned(and only three and a half years ago, many people would've laughed at the suggestion that he'd be where he is now) to take his toughest fight without full preparation because Broner needs somebody to fill an HBO date? As I said, that's why he's fighting Rees and it's the same reason he was going to fight Sykes a while back. And what makes you suggest he's a poor man's Ricky Hatton? Because he's from the UK? Because he fights nothing like him and acts nothing like him. I like Broner very much as a fighter. He's been groomed for superstardom and will most likely go on to deservingly achieve it,but you go from making some good points alongside some poor ones, then sink into nonsense with the Hatton jibe, meaning that it's hard to take what you say seriously. Ricky Hatton was supported by many casual boxing fans and was the most popular British boxer ever. Ricky Burns is only just getting casual fans in Scotland on board.Even many serious fans in England aren't convinced. And most of his fans are fairly realistic. He will have his toughest fight by a mile v Vasquez and he knows it. Were it not for the fact that I've learned never to write him off I'd be less confident about his chances than I am. So again I'll ask,how is he a poor man's Ricky Hatton?
Correct! That is what Ricky is known for, Billy Nelson has made adjustments to his style so he can vary his style but his natural style was always boxer mover with good footwork. He did go toe to toe with Rocky M at times and fought more flat footed against Mitchell, but Ricky Hatton is as far from Burns as you can get.
That he's as far removed from a come forward fighter as you can get. Might not be elite (we'll find out march 16th) but he is not a pressure fighter. Watch his fights against katsidis and Martinez, you'll work it out
