Ricky Burns vs. Nicky Cook confirmed

Billy, Ricky is fighting shameful opposition for a champion. Since beating Martinez he's faced three no-hopers in a row. Cook's claim to being a former world champion is that he beat Alex Arthur. Arthur inherited the belt when Juan Guzman didn't want to make weight for it. He never won it and, quite simply, would have taken a beating from someone as gifted as Guzman.

Cook beat him when he was a weight-drained husk with his paper title. Then Cook got battered by Martinez. What possible benefit is there in Burns beating Cook, who lost so decisively to a man Ricky beat?

Pathetic frankly. You should call this for what it is: a terrible fight.

 

Buckland would absolutely spank Cook and Sykes is british champ, what on earth does cook bring to the table except being made with a china chin?

I dont know how you can knock Buckland and Sykes and say that Cook is more deserving, he's been off for over a year and cameback against a guy with 15 odd losses for **** sake. Billy I thank you for your reply but please admit Cook aint deserving just like Burns's last 2 opponents.

I understand Ricky and Billy wanna earn some cash and they deserve to, but now its becoming a joke! 2 gimme opponents and then a proper set of opponents like a domestic dust up and then a top 10 ranked fighter. Is that too much to ask of a champion to do so? Its like Man Utd avoiding Chelsea, Arsenal etc and choosing to playing Notts Forest and arguing ''they were in europe once, the quality is still there'' :-(

They wouldn't get away with that so why should Ricky with this? Billy you say Buckland isnt a proper defence yet the guy is top 15 (2 in uk) boxrec and Cook is 102 (6 in uk)
Also wasn't Appleby meant to be a fight down the line, what has he done that Buckland hasn't? or dont you and Ricky want that fight? Cook is a riper cherry.

 

Buckland would be the only justifiable British opponent for Burns.

He holds a KO win over the current British champion and is on a good run of form right now. It's a shame that no ****er wants to fight him, the board really should nominate him as mandatory for the British at the very least.

And Nicky Cook, Evensen and Laryea are worthy? Sykes and Buckland are better then all 3.

 

Billy Nelson is Burns' trainer. Why is it so difficult for people to realise that he'll never criticise Burns' opponents. Use your heads ffs. Everyone knows his three defences are dreadful, I'm sure Billy knows this too but he's hardly going to say it is he?

Just seems pointless pressing him to admit something he'll never do. Let's just move on.

 

FoF, then Billy shouldn't criticise other fighters' opponents. Simple as that. Don't make out Burns will fight anyone anywhere when he's done nothing of the sort.

 

Burns will stop Cook, that's how frail he is.

On a good run of form and showed grit at 135, he'd be a great opponent for Burns actually, take the meaningless WBO title out of the picture and Burns would be on a decent run himself, I don't pay no thought to the titles anymore so for me, this fight with Cook is a crap fight whether it's for the British, the WBO, the WBC Silver, whatever, Cook has done nothing since going down to very little aganst Martinez IMO. And Luevano, never a big puncher, hurt him numerous times at 126. He just isn't made of stern stuff.

I will add that Cook was doing alright against Martinez leading up to the stoppage. Burns is superior to Cook already though, and this is just wasting Rickys time IMO.

 

Fair enough lets hope for some top fights then, but dont come out with ridiclous nonsense like "JuanMa Lopez brings nothing to the table" then fight Nicky Cook. Thats why Froch is my fav UK fighter even after the Kessler loss, his CV is arguably the best in the sport right now, in terms of top fights on the bounce

 

What's frustrating is that Burns defeated Martinez relatively easily.

It wasn't as if he got a ridiculous gift decision. He's definitely capable of competing with the top fighters within the division.

Come on Billy..... he's only beaten a not with it Appleby, who'd have got rid of him had he stuck to the jab and body shots.... and he's lost to two very average guys who Burns dominated easily before his drastic improvements in the last couple of years.

 

On what basis do you figure that from? I'd be shell shocked if buckland didnt completely smash laryea apart.
