i think ricky burns and his team are well within his rights to pick who they want to fight especially if the fight is classed as a voluntary defence.

eversen , laryea and cook arent top class opposition everybody can see that but the burns team are using the WBO rules by fighting who they want in the top 15 - there is nothing wrong with that.

burns after he beats cook then has to fight mandatory , the WBO mandatory is eloy perez as its been about a year since martinez fought burns who was the WBO no.1 contender.

they are the rules and the burns team is using them to their advantage to make a bit of money , keep ricky busy and to gain world championship experience.

Your point would hold water if it was genuine top 15 contenders he was fighting, but Nicky Cook has fought once in 2 years, against a journeyman, and has magically appeared in the WBO top 15. It's a ****ing disgrace.

They're playing by corrupt rules though, everyone knows that someone in the WBO got a nice fat cheque to put Cook in the top 15. Everything about this fight stinks.

Sykes is brit champ and buckland holds a ko over him. Both are rated higher by the bbboc and worldwide by boxrec yet the wbo sanction this fight. I would understand if martinez was in the corner but not cook! All this and Bill still won't admit that its a cherry. **** cook and **** team burns for allowing ****** for making the fight. If there's any justice burns will get starched by perez. I wish burns all the success one could hope for but this fight is a shambles.

It's a poor defence but not unexpected to be honest, I'm sure most of us thought Cook would be a defence at some point as soon as Burns won the belt knowing Warr-en. However, it's annoying that it's the 3rd defence like this in a row now. It will be interesting to see how Burns will react when he inevitably does step it up with the likes of Perez or Mendez, he won't have mixed in that class for a good few fights when he does take that type of fight on

What sort of response is that? boxing fans have the right to expect 'world champions' to fight world class fighters.. and have the right to feel annoyed by this joke defence :good

Ricky didnt exactly have the best resume for a world title challenger before he challenged for the title now did he?

The difference being Ricky was willing to go in with martinez who was rated the top SFW in the world and we knew we'd beat him.be honest theres no way Sykes or bucland would fight martinez, martinez would sparkle both imo
