Burns will now turn his attention to fighting Roman Martinez for the World Super-Featherweight crown.

The Puerto Rican has a voluntary defence of his belt next Saturday night when he tackles Argentina’s Gonzalo Munguia in a South American slugfest.

And should Martinez come through unscathed, Burns is expected to get his shot at the world title at the end of July.

The 27-year-old said: “I spoke with Frank Warren about things while I was down there.

“It’s been a frustrating time for everyone and the main problem has been trying to find a date that suits everyone, including Sky TV.

“But I’ve been assured that the fight will happen and that it will be in Glasgow. Whenever it is, I’ll be ready.”

you would have to think it won't be July 31st with Khan fighting that night, so are we looking at the 24th, probably to soon for Martinez though.

I see little reason to worry about a clash with Khan. Hopefully Khan stays on ITV.

I'd be stunned if Martinez, providing he wins, fights Burns on Jul 31st. Realistically I think you have to be looking at after that date.

if Khan is doing a big show at the MEN, hardcore boxing fans will travel to that show instead of going to the Burns fight.

When Khan fight at UK time it will be Sky Box Office.

If this fight has been made you would realistically want a decent camp of 10-12 weeks....:yep A nice lead in with good rest too...:yep

This is a massive fight and the timing of it is so critical...:yep

I think the begining of September would be ideal given that we are approaching the end of May...:yep

I really want to go to this fight, Ricky Burns is our most improved fighter at the moment, he has shown great strength and awareness from his defeat by Carl Johannsen and is defo moving onto and up to better things...:deal

Even if Khan was fighting I'd rather see Burns.

It don't matter a hoo-haa. Khan and Burns wont be fighting on the same night in my opinion.

Whats wrong with that? A scottish fighter who is really good and a fighter I like fighting for a world title. Course I'm going to be wanting to go their and cheer him on. As for Khan I'm indifferent really, sure he is amazing but I'd rather see a Scot crowned champion than watch Khan in the flesh, I can watch him on TV.

    Yep

I'd rather watch Burns win (hopefully) a world title that watch Khan in what will most probably be an easy touch fight.
