Is this guy any good, he's rocky martinez mandatory after rockys next fight and i never heard of him. :hat
He's a Scottish fighter and is good on the domestic front but i don't think he is world class. Got decent skills and is quite tough but not much pop in his punch. I don't know how he will handle Martinez. Rocky could be a step up to much for Burns. Burns two biggest opponents to date have been Alex Arthur and Carl Johannsen and he lost both of them but the last loss was over 3 years ago and he has improved since then albeit against lesser opposistion.
He's a talented kid - comes from town where i grew up and it isnt pretty. Hasn't progressed as much / as quickly as i thought he would - he beat Graham Earl who was British Lightweight champ at time in non-title match in his 10th fight just two fights before Earl beat Yuri Romanov. Jacko is right - it could be a step too far but don't overlook him there's more in there if you know what I mean.
Ricky Burns has come a lonh way since his loss and is a quite a sharp operator. He was fighting on the undercard of Mitchell Katsidis at the weekend. Won a UD domination over some unknown - think that one was a warm up for Martinez! He's a good boxer, sharp and technical, but does lack a killer blow. His fight against Michael Gomez was great. Matador taming the bull before leaving it on its back.
althought he doesn't really deserve his mandatory shot, he has a very good chance to win. Early in his career there wasn't much hype around him in the UK and he was seen as just an decent level opponent. He scored a shock victory of Graham Earl who was a decent prospect at the time. He then got thrown in to soon agaisnt Alex Arthur and then again with Carl Johanesson. He lost to both but he learnt allot from the fights. Since then he has put a decent run together, and is probably the most improved fighter in the UK. He has also physically matured into a strong, solid and powerful Super Featherweight. He does not have the power like Martinez but he could certainly outbox him like Nicky Cook was in the first few rounds of there fight. Burns will be strong enough to push him around the ring. You will be able to find most of his recent fights on youtube. Also the fight will be in the UK as Frank Warren won purse bids.
