In order to be a rivalry, it needs to be two-sided. Witter sees Hatton as his rival. Hatton just sees him as some parasite trying to leach off his success. And no, Witter is no Mayweather, he hasn't got the fundamental skills, the stamina, the bodypunching, the speed, the movement or the ring smarts. About all he does have is probably equal chin and power.

As for Hatton, what did he have to gain from fighting Magee? Collazo? Urango? What does he have to gain from fighting Lazcano? Those were dangerous bouts, but ones he was expected to win.

 

As for Hatton rejecting a fight with Bradley as he brings nothing to the table, I would **** myself laughing if it was announced that Hatton's next fight after Lazcano was to be against Bradley just to spite Witter. Sorry Junior, you'll have to find some other get rich quick scheme!

 

He didnt fight too well on the counter against Bradley! And I disagree with most of your other points. Just because a boxer looks like he should be fast and mobile, doesnt necessarily make it so. Hatton would have a tougher fight against (the faster, more mobile) Malignaggi than Witter.

Anyway, moot point, Witter brings even less to the table now than he has done for the last 3 years. Shame that, just when he was gathering some fan base and momentum...

Hatton’s ducking of Witter had very little to do with what Witter brought to table, and even if it did you still lose that debate too. Prior to Saturday night Witter was by some margin Hatton’s most credible opponent at 140lbs, disagree with me and you’ll also be disagreeing with Ring Magazine. Are you trying to suggest that Lazcano is a more credible opponent than Junior? Witter brought credibility to the table, and that’s the one thing that Hatton is desperately short of in 2008.

No, the reason why Hatton never fought Witter was because Witter, on his night, is a very awkward and slick operator capable of beating anyone. Frank Warren knew, that’s why he kept them apart, because Hatton was marketable on a global scale whereas Witter wasn’t (and never will be), he had to ensure his cash cow survived. Frank Warren is one of the shrewdest businessmen and most skilled matchmakers out there.

Hatton is all style and no substance, he rarely backs up his rhetoric and repeatedly sends himself down the path of least resistance.

Not at all, but Mayweather was. So after losing to P4P number 1 Hatton lacked credibility? Lazcano is exactly what it appears to be, a confidence booster. After that I would imagine Hatton would fight Malignaggi. As suggested earlier, if Witter wanted the fight for the right reasons (rather than just to grab a piece of a Hatton purse) then he could have gone down the Torres route and offered a unification bout next year.

Trouble is, he was exposed by Bradley. Hatton has nothing to prove against him.

 

The fight against Lazcano is a comeback fight, tune up and confidence builder after Hatton suffereed his first ever loss and was brutally TKOed. That is why he if facing the quality of opponent he is. Even then, Lazcano is a top 10 contender in Ring magazine, 2 above Torres.

After that he is fighting the NO1 contender.

Witter fought (and lost, was knocked down) by a guy who had never ever fought a top 50 oponent before.

If Hatton fights pac he will have fought the world p4p no1, p4p no2 and p4p no3. "Path of least resistance" what are you talking about. :blood

Yea, I thought that as well, I was trying to think of a way to edit him out.

To be fair to him he though, he put up a half decent fight last time out and he could have taken on a much easier opponent.

 

How up-to-date is that list anyway? Where are Witter and Bradley. Surely Witter hasn't disappeared altogether from the top 10 of a shitty division, after one SD loss.

It's up to the 5th of May. I took Witter out because of his diabolical loss since. He may well still be on there somewhere when the new one comes out, he may not, he was beaten by a total nobody.

Yea, Rees is still on thereatsch (hes actually at 4, but moved him to 3 becasue I took out Witter). I can only think he is so hight because he lost his title to an opponent of fairly decent quality.
