Was he below Hatton's level? Sure. I won't argue that at all. But I think you're going a little far with your comparison of Witter to Briggs. If anything it was more like Hatton calling out Mayweather, except they were actually in the same weight class, and Witter was doing it year after year instead of just once.

Not at all. Hatton beat Tszyu which is like Cotto beating Mosley. Hatton beat Collazo, Cotto beat Judah, Hatton beat Urango, Cotto beat Clottey, Hatton didn't really have a Quintana type opponent, but it's not as if Hatton did beat his fair share of fighters as well.

In no way I'm adding soon retired KT in that list. And KT is nowhere near Mosley anyway. Collazo is decent, that's it and one could argue he lost that fight. So he is that level of a fighter. Well... that level is nowhere near Cotto. The only true prime fighters Hatton has faced mopped the floor with him. And that fact will remain.

These two have quite a few similarities. Of course, they have differences, but very few. A couple that come right away is now Cotto is a 3 time Division Champ now, and Cotto is very much loved here on ESB, and Hatton is very much hated here on ESB.

Cotto lost a 12TKO to Pacquiao that's not early. Mayweather Sr. is not a great trainer.

Yeah and if Hatton appeal to the public had been an inability to sell out the Doncaster Dome and if he had stunk the place out whenever he got a big tv opportunity, then I'm sure Mayweather would have turned Hatton down too.

We could go through every Boxer's resume and say "well, he wasn't all that good." "He was old" etc. etc. Tzsyu was still a top P4P fighter and he was a major favorite. I could say the same thing about Cotto, the only really true, primed, elite fighter he faced he got beat up as well. Either way, neither one of us is right and our opinions are quite different on this topic.
