I feel he he could have been a swarmer if had a better trainer.

If he would have started boxing as a child.

If he would have had head head movement and better defense.

He could have been a great fighter.

I feel the complete opposite on the matter. Hatton was not that good of an athlete. I feel he accomplished as much as he could have for a guy with his limited athleticism. He beat guys that were far better athletes than he was. His wiill and relentlessness were his best assets and he took full advantage of those against fighters that he should have lost to.

I don't think you guys remember vintage Hatton. After winning the title from Tzsyu, his style did get a bit grimier.

But he used to be the DEFINITION of a swarmer...absolutely relentless in his prime, to a level very few guys have ever been and will ever be. He was like a poor man's Henry Armstrong at his best...which is still something fantastic. Always moving, always throwing, always stalking...

    :huh He was a swarmer.

He was boxing as a child.

Ricky was as good as he could have been. He had some technical flaws but he did his thing about as well as he could.

He could have improved by not ballooning in weight between fights. Why do u think Hopkins and Floyd have such longevity. Although he is a dirty fighter I like him and wish he had been 100 percent the night he fought PBF.

  13. Would have been great 2 c how his career would have gone if not born in a bar wit second hand smoke and alcohol. it took its toll

Not true at all. Hatton had footwork which was as good as prime Mayweather. Watch the fight.

He has quick hands too, what he lacked was power, chin and skill.

    Ive always agreed with this.

Hatton had great natural talent, his hand, footspeed and chin were great in his prime.

His career suffered from 2 things

His prime was wasted feasting on WBU bums.

He was too loyal to his trainer. Graham is good enough to train domestic lvl guys. However Ricky was world class talent. He never learned how to box, he only learned how to brawl.

By the time Ricky stepped up and started fighting World Class fighters. His talents were already on the slide from hard drinking/shitty diet between fights.

However, he also strated holding way more when he stepped up. Thats because he started getting hit alot more, and the only defense he was taught was to hold on. If he had a better trainer, he would have learned proper defensive footwork and evasion.

I don't see him as a classic over acheiver, just a wasted talent IMO

Froch on the otherhand, is a classic over achiever
