I'm a Brit myself and despite being saddened to see Ricky get ko last weekend i cant help but feel that Ricky has delusions of his own ability of some sort.

He's a solid world champion who's short of elite level, who has done extremely well for himself beating some good opponents - that is the simple fact.

After the mayweather defeat, he blamed the weight, the ref, billy graham got sacked etc. However, when I watch the fight, I see floyd outclassing him, beating him on the inside / outside / everyside.

After the pacquiao defeat, the general feeling is again, everyone is to blame but himself, mayweathers been slated by some sectors, camp trouble generally by others...the simple fact is ricky got in the ring and did not attempt do anything that he, floyd or any of his entourage said he was going to do. Its been suggested he underrated pacquiaos spped and power, hence his ott aggression but if anyone thinks floyd instructed him to fight like that then your mad. That was his error and it resulted in him being knocked out.

Both defeats were legitimate defeats, down to the fact that whilst ricky is a solid, world class champion...he isn't elite, he is one dimensional and he is unable to adapt. Perhaps its time for him to realise that and retire while he has lots of money, a decent legacy and good health and stop with excuses.

Who has Ricky actally blamed for the loss apart from himself? I've not heard him blaming anyone.

    exactly!

and i say again,Should he eventually make the incredibly difficult decision to hang them up, Hatton should be remembered not for what happened on Saturday night, but for the way he tried to live up to all our expectations of what a championship boxer should be. No fear. Fight the best. Entertain the fans. Perhaps we should all take a step back from Saturday and consider how many current fighters have this attitude, because when warriors like Hatton and Pacquiao are gone, we might miss them more than we think !

the guys approaching 50 fights now,a great career and a great fighter.

I agree with all of the post except maybe I think its more his ambition than being delusional, he grew up idolizing Duran & co, so naturally you have to fight the best to follow in their steps, he believes thats the way to be & it is really.

  5. Ricky Hatton is no different from any other fighter. If he didn't have total belief in his ability he wouldn't step in the ring with the likes of Mayweather and Pacquiao.

What would you expect him to say?

Definitely, its one of the reasons i wanted to see him get destroyed. Like i said his ego is writing cheques his Boxing skills cant cash.

He makes excuses after every fight. I have no respect for him anymore. If he is not making excuses, he is using his contrived persona to gain more fans to earn more money.

Im glad he got brutalized and embarrassed.

Its not a Ricky hatton hate post or anything, got tons of respect for him and what hes achieved.
Its more about his excuses for the defeats generally. Rather than take defeat on the chin (no pun intended) for the floyd fight there were excuses coming out from everywhere.

For the pacman fight he said at the poolside interview that camp could have gone better (before the fight it was one of the best hes had), telling us he's going to come and box smart but then doesnt, gets spanked and after the fight says "thats just how ricky hatton is". No, its beacuse you arent in that class ricky, truely elite fighters can change, adapt etc, and he cant and I would just like to see him say that the reason he lost was because he isnt good enough.

Even for the collazo fight where he was less than impressive, the weight was blamed, for the lazcano fight it was because he was ill etc.

Ricky should take a look at oscar (after pac) at how to take a defeat like a champion.

What has nice gotta do with anything?

I cant stand any sportsman that thinks he is better than he is. There is nothing worst than a guy that overrates HIMSELF.

Him getting brutalized was very fitting. His ego has hopefully now been put in check and let him no what time it really is regarding his skillset.

Im glad he did not sustain any lasting damage, but im also glad he has got the message. There are far better fighters out there with less ego than Hatton.

M8 what are you talking about? - Ricky Hatton has blamed no one for his loss but himself. He said his "heart ruled his head" and he got it wrong. And as for the Mayweather fight everyone could see that ref was a wanker but Hatton repeatedly said "but joe cortez didnt beat me Mayweather beat me."

    Shittest thread ive ever seen.

Do your rip son. Hatton got his ego put in check in embarrassing fashion twice, and i thought it was hilarious.

I dont like fighters with no skill. That is all. :hi:

He's had a fine career with some notable victories. He just lost to the two best fighters on the planet and there's nothing shameful in that.

Ive just read alot of what you lot have been saying and most of you are wankers. Hattons reasons are true. When he moves up to welter hes not as good at the weight, hes slower there. As for Lazcano how can he lie about that it was medically proven he had a chest infection. And he said it was the best training camp hes ever had, he said that the time before and for the Mayweather fight. Pac said it aswell. Do you really expect a fighter to say "oh no im in terrible shape"

Alot of people in here that have never got in the ring in their life but seem to think they know everything.
