    ...are the Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns of this generation. Yeah thats a bold statement but they are the three that matter, and they MUST fight one another to achieve true greatness. You can even throw Oscar De La Hoya into the mix he's still such a big name, and there is talk of him fighting Ricky Hatton. Shane Mosley too.

    We need these guys to man-up and fight each other, no excuses, boxing has no heavyweight division, competition from MMA, too many WB* alphabet titles and an image problem, and the only thing keeping it interesting is the unfolding saga in the 140-147lbs division. Ok maybe I'm being harsh, but these are the fights that matter, if they dont get made what else is there going on in boxing thats gonna get people's attention? Hopkins - Winky? Joe Calzaghe? Those middleweights kept boxing interesting in the 80's post-Ali and pre-Tyson, and that whose our guys are doing right now.

    so dont hate and become too tribal about this, just sit back and witness our era unfold, enjoy it for it for what it is. I dont like people ripping on Cotto Hatton and PBF coz We're witnessing history unfold so quit the hating and start appreciating.

    I was thinking Hatton = Duran and Cotto = Hagler. Sugar ray is PBF no question.

    Hatton combines the best of all three. The what poster of the thread says might be right. Don't let nostaligia prevent you from realising it anyone.

    The big seperator here is pride. The three fighters you mentioned all had a burning desire to prove themselves as professional prizefighters. That exceeded money, fame and everything else.

    :lol: well they were at the same weightclass at one point, so he was just wanting to promote some match-ups. Floyd was ok back then, active and available. RIcky was very famous, and Cotto the next big PR champ. They were ALL UNdefeated too.

    Jesus, it took me a few posts to realize this was way old. My first thought was that this was a "One of These Things is Not Like The Other" type deal...

    in the last 15 years:
    Mosley=Duran
    DLH=SRL
    Trinidad=Hearns
    Hopkins=Hagler
    Winky=Benitez
    Tyszu=Pryor

    today
    Pac=Duran
    Mayweather=SRL
    P.Williams=Hearns
    Margarito (either him or Pavlik)=Hagler
    Cotto=Benitez
    Hatton=Pryor
