Ricky Hatton - Floyd Mayweather in England 2010

Hi, not really posted in this forum to much but have been lurking for a long time. Anyway. . .

Now that the Pacquiao fight is off, does anyone think this is a possibility for Floyds next fight? He has been courting the British market for quite a while, has stated his intention to fight here and he obviously knows the PPV potential that another Hatton fight has. It is very much a low risk/high financial reward fight for Mayweather - his kind of fight.

I've read that Hatton is to start training again soon, and that his next fight will be at Welterweight, not 140. He has also stated on several occassions that he'd love another crack 'at that Mayweather' before he retires. Do you think he is trying to get himself on Floyd's radar?

I personally think it could happen, it certainly makes more sense than the Magic Matthew fight. There's plenty of money to be made for the Goldenboy family, and if it's marketed properly I think it (unfortunately) could pack a stadium and be another box office success.

I agree with your sentiments about rematches. Plus, with the way Manny disposed of Hatton, Floyd would have a hard time building improving on that.

 

If he is set on coming back I would like to see him in with a beatable 'name' opponent. I can't help but feel that Khan would blitz Hatton at this stage of their careers. Cotto or Marquez could be good fights to watch but, depending how much they have left in the tank, both could beat Hatton.

However, if the fight gets offered I can't see Ricky's pride allowing him to turn it down .

 

Ha ha, love the cynisism. Sadly, you're probably right - I think Ricky would probably fight Matthew if the money was there.
