its shocking to me now that I look back ... I was into the build up but I was on mayweathers side ... I knew it was big back then but I didn't really acknowledge it ... lol ...

that weigh in was crazy ... when hatton took the mic and said "who's going to take the belts?!" And they scream "you!!" ... then the place erupted when he said "then let's ****ing have em" .....

Even after he got knocked out they we singing his gingle ... it was insane the support he got .... name one fighter who got knocked out and they were acting like he won?

Hey I never really liked him as a fighter except for when he attacks the body ....but reguardless. That type of support is unreal

I seriously cant fink of anyone, ever.
Nah Hatton was the peoples champion, Calzaghe a better fighter but a bell end. Everyone took Hatton to their hearts, a Ricky Hatton fight was like the World Cup.

I have to agree and many people tend to forget that he went 43-0 before losing that one against floyd. I was rooting for him to win BTW.

A Welshman born in England who considers himself Italian. He ****ed himself over with that demographic. . .

Hatton has a seriously nutty fanbase. Who in their right mind would travel thousands of miles just for the CHANCE to be in the same building as a fight lol. I know most of them aren't 'real' boxing fans but you have to admire their dedication. I was living in Gran Canaria when he fought Tszyu and barely anyone asked me about any televised fights before then. I had to reserve a whole bar for about 300 people that wanted to watch Hatton-Tszyu when everyone who came on holiday that week (and I mean everyone) asked me where they could watch it.

My theory is that calz didn't the same support beacuse he is from wales but I maybe wrong. Hope people from UK will enlighten us on this.

That's awesome, I mean the support ricky gets from people in england but honestly though, I thought zoo would win.

Thanks for that demographic explanation btw.

I mean hatton is a very likable guy ..very honest .... very charismatic ... funny too ... he had a fun style to watch ... where joe comes off as cocky with a dry humor ... had a fun style to watch but he was way more defensive ....

Ricky Hatton had the ingridients for a huge fan base

What you need to realise s that Calzaghe comes across as very cocky and arrogant, he trys to place it nice but his true coulors come out alot. Hatton is no different from the man in the pub, and he never tried to be, he was proud of what he was and the everyday people loved him for it. I cant see any fighter from the U.K reaching the heights of the support that Hatton had. Hatton turned people into boxing fans.

I think Hatton could return next month to fight a journeyman, and he would still sell out the City of Manchester Stadium.
