http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.php/The_Ring_Magazine%27s_Annual_Ratings:_Pound_For_Pound--1990s Whitaker was ranked #3 at the end of 1996. He had a subpar performance against Hurtado early in 1997 so maybe he dropped a slot or 2. Trinidad was ranked #4 at the end of 1998. Holyfield was #3 at the time, but obviously he fell after the "draw" with Lewis in March of 1999. Hopkins was #2 at the end of 2003, but Hopkins-DLH came in September 2004, after Tarver beat Jones in May. Hopkins was #1 when he beat DLH. So was Mayweather. So DLH fought #1s and most likely #3s before, but probably no #2s. Whitaker fought top p4pers in Chavez, DLH, and Trinidad, but I dunno about them being #1 through #3.
i have a Ring mag with the rankings from the end of 2004. and this was the list: 1-Roy Jones 2-Bernard Hopkins 3-Shane Mosley 4-De La Hoya 5-Floyd Mayweather 6-Pac 7-Tszyu 8-Morales 9-Toney 10-Tarver
Why was Jones top after Tarver whacked him? Isn't that from the end of 2003 with Zoo 7th because of his inactivity? And Mosley 3rd on the basis of his victory over Hoya at the end of that year?
This is for the end of 2003, not 2004. Mosley is #3 on this list, above DLH at #4. No Winky Wright. Mosley's rematch with DLH was September 2003. Mosley's fights with Wright were in 2004. Roy Jones at #1. Tarver at #10. No Glen Johnson. Jones got stretched by Tarver in May 2004, and by Johnson in September 2004.
